My family of 4 will be going to Jackson Hole next week. We will be going to Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP. Anyone been recently? Restaurant tips or anything that is closed because of COVID.
Thanks in a advance

Weather is great and the place is bustling. Masks in all businesses/restaurants including hotels. Yellowstone and GTNP have good crowds. Snake River Brewery opened back up and I highly recommend going there for beer and food. Head to Teton Village and have lunch on the mountain. Great view. It is tough to get in a lot of the restaurants without reservations. Lots of places downtown to slip in and have a quick lunch.

Stop at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar to check out the saddle bar stools.

We had thought about going but we couldn't find anything under $300 a night. We decided we would try the trip next year. If you find any good room deals let me know.

That’s pretty much the normal price there unfortunately

I'm a Jackson Hole local and we are seeing a huge surge in COVID cases which has caused quite a few local restaurants and businesses to close back down due to staff exposure and the required county 14 day quarantine for those exposed.
We are at near normal summer numbers, but with only a fraction of the restaurants able to service people and none of them able to do so at normal capacity. I passed a few restaurants on Friday night with 30+ people waiting outside. I wouldn't be surprised to continue see restaurants having to close down. I would be open to the idea of getting to-go dinner, or eating earlier around 5 to beat the crowds.
Spend as much time out in the parks as you can, and you'll have a great time. I passed a VERY long line to get back across the Jenny Lake Boat last weekend. They are running limited capacity so it's making the wait times longer.

I’m driving to Montana Wednesday from Denver and planning on detouring you through Teton and Yellowstone.
Anyone know if Yellowstone traffic is unbearable currently?

Trio, the Local, and Hand Fired are Take-out only right now. To pick three restaurants. They had staff test positive, and they told those employees to stay home.
Without j1 students, staffing is really tight, so you’ll see more of that.
The town also passed a mask ordinance.
The people who are prone to worrying, are worrying. For me - looking around - I think they’re being irrational, but I understand why everytime I see a newspaper or CNN blaring on the television.
The media is selling fear right now.

They were just understaffed to start with.
The number of cases is very low. And we aren’t seeing serious ones.
Total known caseload peaked in the second week of April. The actual peak probably occurred in February or March.

About three weeks ago it was perfectly fine. This was before they started opening up some of the other hotels though so could have picked up in recent weeks.

Number of cases might be low, but the mandated quarantines are what is affecting the already low staffing levels. I know of a few restaurants that said staff exposure and quarantines were the reason they couldn’t stay open. If I were visiting Jackson I wouldn’t be worried about contracting COVID myself but I’d be worried about how it might affect my vacation plans. Make reservations and eat early.
Nearly every department at my workplace has positive cases and associated mandated quarantines. And we don’t even deal with the visiting public. Whether you believe people are worrying too much or not, this thing is going to continue to have an impact on the summer tourism in JH.

Hopefully the panic will subside when the election is finally over. And we can return to some kind of normal.
The labor situation will be difficult for us. We won’t have j1 visa employees, and everyone from the mountain to the restaurants will have do to more, with fewer people.

Check out Thomas Mangleson’s photo gallery in downtown Jackson.

Wild Life Art Museum
Not sure if it's open but the parking lot of this place just outside town is worth the ride up the hill.
Cool story - we passed this passed for 3 days on the way to the GTNP and on our last evening back to Jackson we decided to stop to check it out. We asked this nice lady in the parking lot if they were open and she said no they were closed for a "locals only private event" that night.
We said too bad as this was our last night in Jackson before heading to Yellowstone. She said...come on in and we got treated to the museum for free with wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres and and they had a band playing as well. We had a blast!!
Beautiful place.
