We had a trip scheduled to a place on Lake Travis for a bach party in April thats been booked for the past few months. Lady calls the best man today to interview him and asks the purpose of the visit and he says its a group of friends celebrating a wedding for one of our buds. She says oh, I have to cancel because that implies a party and thats against city ordinance.

He argues with her and says if I have another guy book and he said it was for a family vacation would that be OK. She says yeah. He likely didn't go as crazy as I would've gotten on her. So frick that city and their dumbass laws. Who the frick wants to restrict tourist activity and lose that income?

TLDR; we're going to trusty old Las Vegas

Does best man sound like Elmer Fudd high on meth? That might have influenced her decision

When you are disturbing a residential neighborhood with loud parties, its not cool....and why that ordinance exists. It really became an issue for people trying to live in areas with party houses...aka airbnb houses. And Austin doesn't need your tourist dollars.

While some discretion should be used in these decisions for Lake Travis (ages, type of renter, etc.), your friend is an idiot for saying it was anything more than a weekend vacation for his family.

Yeah he probably fricked it up by saying that but oh well. When browsing places to book there was shite like you can't have more than 10 related people in a house and no more than 6 unrelated people. No more than 6 people outside at a time. No parties. Like c'mon man thats just ridiculous.

And also, does that include people that are actual residents there? Because at my house in south LA I routinely have family get togethers and parties. Couldn't imagine someone trying to take that away from me.

Booking a place to stay is a little different than having family and friends over.

I agree but assuming that a group of people will disturb the peace simply because they aren't related is... I don't have a word for it. It just perplexes me that something like that has been passed as a law. Clearly the culture there is polar opposite from here.

It has nothing to do with whether or not they are related.

A. You own a house have friends and family over.

B. You own a house and use a booking service to rent it out to a group of people.

Scenario B opens you up to a new set of laws/ordinances, aka the one referenced in the OP. there is a clear difference and it's not the family relation.

Austin is the closest thing to Communist Russia you will find in the south.

Go somewhere you will actually have fun.

Ya, looks just like that economic system from what I can tell.

Meanwhile, in New Orleans...How many of these are empty still? 3/4?

The activist types are annoying though.

My sister has lived there for 25 years and I've visited enough to know it's really overrated as a destination. You're not really missing anything.

Change your plans and go to San Antonio and have a blast. Austin is nothing more than a Portland imitation. If Calexit happens, Austin will try to join them.

Seriously, the rest of the state is not at all like Austin.

Austin was very Meh as far as I was concerned. The hill country was cool and San Antonio was enjoyable.
