16 yo daughter (no pics OTers) & I have a long weekend trip to Denver area in Mid June and want to stay somewhere cool in the mountains within 2 hours or so of Denver.
Preferably near stuff to do, hiking, food, outdoor stuff. Nothing hard core.
Leaning toward Breckenridge…. Walkability a plus…

Plenty of possible AirBNB options it seems, but not sure about locations, etc.
Cost is a factor unfortunately…
Tips? Suggestions?

If you're looking for walkability, Breck.

You described Estes Park. At the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Plenty of hiking, horseback riding, day trip for rafting, etc. Less than 2 hours from Denver. Nice little town with plenty of lodging at all price points.

Mountains got a couple inches of snow last night. I would recommend any hikes you plan on doing to stay below 10,000'. There will be mud if not snow. Alltrails is good to see current conditions.

Maybe stay in Boulder and take days trips to a few different towns. RMNP is great to see, you dont need a reservation before 9 or after 2. Trail Ridge is open and bad arse. You could also head up the canyon to Nederland and Brainard Lake one day. I think Evans Rd is open, but look as you will need a reservation also. Boulder is easy to get to and fun to walk around. 16 yr old will love Pearl Street and the Flat Irons are cool to hike.

Colorado has zero must eat places and most of the food is meh at best.

ETA-you could also just stay in Denver if it is cheaper. All these places are an hour or two away.

If you want to do a popular hike like Emerald Lake from the Bear Lake trailhead, get there really early. Like 7-7:30. You should find parking and avoid the major crowds.

Agreed. The Flat Irons are fun.

St. Mary's Glacier is also pretty cool. You can bring a trash bag and slide down it like sledding.

There are several whitewater rafting placing around, but it may be too rough since it's early in the season and there's still lots of snow melt.

Lots of fun for her in Breck and Summit County. Food, shopping hiking and music galore.

In searching for a place to stay, Airbnb and VRBO should provide good options. Summer rates are pretty darn cheap.

It's a 2.5 hour drive, but FIBArk Whitewater Festival in Salida is in 2 weeks. If that's the weekend you're visiting, I would highly suggest going down there for the weekend. I've been several times and always enjoy it. Very family friendly. The river dog and hooligan race events are our favorite.

ETA: Looks like Hell's Belles is headlining Saturday night music at the carnival/river amphitheater. They're an awesome all female AC/DC cover band.

Only thing, this late in the game it might be hard to find an airbnb nearby.

Need a reservation from 5am to 6pm to get in Bear Lake area. Can't even get to the Moraine area without the reservation. Plus still a ton of snow up there.

Thanks. I haven't been since Covid. So I didn't realize this was still the case.

Thanks for the tips…
Made it to Breck & stay has been awesome.

Only thing left to figure out is a good place in Denver to watch the Tigers Play Sunday…
Thoughts?
