traveling with my wife. total trip can be 5-6 days, will be flying from los angeles using virgin (miles), so please don't recommend flying in or out of any airport besides logan or jfk/ewr. help me create an itinerary that either starts and ends in boston, or starts in nyc and ends in boston (or vice versa). at least 2 days needs to be devoted to boston. fine with renting a car or taking the amtrak.

ideally going in october. i need to know 2 main things: what towns/cities are worth visiting, and how long to stay.

I'm basically looking for the east coast equivalent to the california's pacific coast hwy drive.

thanks in advance.

try visitacity.com. I don't know if it can link multiple cities BUT you can plan for each at that sight. There are also premade itineraries for different lengths of time.

You can also play with it and add what you want and what you may have tickets for. IE we went to NYC and had tickets for several things. I was able to add that time slot and put things how we wanted. It shows distance between sites once planned and routes as well.

Also it lets you know what things may be closed at times that you're trying to go to things.

Just check it out and play with it. That's what I had to do.

(ie do this after you've decided what towns and citites)

For Boston go to the Freedom Trail for sure .. my husband is not the touristy type and that was his favorite part. We also went to a Red Sox game. Wish we'd had more time but only had a day there.

Cape Cod is great but not exactly on the way to NYC.

general itinerary is set. take red eye from LA to boston, catch bus immediately from logan airport to cape cod. 2 nights in cape cod. bus back to boston for 3 days than fly home to LA.

already have the boston part of the trip set.

tiger- can you make a recommendation for 2 days in cape cod. i'm thinking of hyannis since its centrally located and the bus goes straight there. open to other options.

We took a fairy to Martha's Vineyard. Had limited time so we used it wisely with a bus tour that did have a couple of stops. Was really nice.

ALso stopped at Plymouth as well. Yes, it's a "rock" but we couldn't be there and not stop. There was a replica Mayflower that had in period "actors" who were "living it out". Was pretty neat actually.

We drove to the point of the Cape (New Foundland) and climbed some big arse tower .. was a workout but was really neat to do. I mean, while you're there ...

And the light houses on the Cape were cool as well. Didn't get to go in any but neat to be up close to them.

Make stop by Newport, RI. Beautiful little area on the water. Your wife with love the shops and you will enjoy the scenery.

Well, we stayed at a hotel in some little town that I don't remember the name of either ... this was back in 2009 and it was where the wedding was being held. I'd say stay where's convenient.

We rented a car in Boston so that we could have access to go where we wanted and stay as long/not long as we wanted. Wish I could remember where we caught the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. I remember it was COLD on the ferry and we went in September.

There's got to be someone who is there/has been there more recently than me.

For the MV trip, I do remember that we parked our car "somewhere" and tons of people got on a shuttle bus to the ferry terminal. It brought us to MV and we spent the day there. Would have loved to be able to go to Nantucket but we had limited time ... darn wedding schedule.

AND I lied ... we drove to Provincetown ... NOT New Foundland. (not sure what the hell I was thinking)

We went here: Pilgrim's Tower

And maybe we stayed in Chatham.

Island Queen looks/sounds familiar

I so wish I could remember day by day what we did ... pretty sure that we left Boston by car on Friday am and did Martha's Vinyard that day (Bus tour stopped at Gay Head Cliffs .. BEAUTIFUL)and then continued to our hotel via a scenic route. The Saturday morning I know we drove to Provincetown and back for a late afternoon wedding -- ate lobster rolls and the BEST fudge I've ever eaten in Provincetown.

Think that Sunday we got up and left EARLY to drive through lots of little towns and Plymouth where we went to church. Continued on to Boston and Monday did Freedom Trail and a Red Sox game on Monday night.

I hate you -- you're making me want to go back so badly!!!
