Best place to stay in London

I really enjoyed staying in Notting Hill. Great neighborhood vibe and you can take the tube to the touristy areas easily without having to stay in a touristy area.

We have stayed in Mayfair which is right off of Picadilly. We stayed in a Hilton which has since been sold. Across from Green Park and Buckingham Palace. We stayed on Bayswater at a Hilton which was next to
the Queensway tube station. It is across from Kensington Park and Kensington Palace. We just returned from staying in the Hilton Queensgate. It is 10 minutes from the nearest tube and about 30 minutes from Royal Albert Hall and the other side of Kensington Park. We also walked to Chelsea. Mayfair is our preferred location but those places are on the pricey side.

Check out the Bloomsbury Hotel. Right near the Tottenham tube station, which is bullseye center of the tube system. Short walk to the British Museum and many theaters.

For a first time visit I would recommend the Park

Great location to typical tourist stuff.

If it fits your budget, I'd suggest the Conrad St. James, right between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. I have a friend who had a great stay there this summer.

It's really the perfect location. Besides the attractions above, you're right next to Parliament and Big Ben and the Churchill War Rooms. The National Gallery is also within easy walking distance, and you're also right by more modern attractions such as the aquarium and the Eye.

I stayed at an AirBNB in Fitzrovia (still in Westminster and is Zone 1 for the tube). Safe area and not far from several tube stations (depending on which route you want to take).

Some pretty good restaurants in Fitzrovia as well, but they were a bit cheaper than Soho and the like.

I always have enjoyed staying at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in Mayfair. Like another poster said near Buckingham Palace and across the street from Hyde Park, near Albert and Victoria Museum and Harrods.

Lots of good places to stay in London. Canary Wharf and the area right across the bridge from the Tower of London (I forget the neighborhood name) are both great spots.

But listen to this. The Tube is your friend to getting around. Traffic has gotten exponentially worse lately post-COVID. The streets are packed and I only Taxi/Ubered twice when I was there last month. Rode the Tube the rest of the time due to congestion.

Google Maps is now linked to the Tube and does a fantastic job of laying out what stations/lines/stops/changes to make. It's magic and really demystifies riding the Tube anywhere you want to go. But......

Map your route before you leave and screen shot all the info. Because once you get below ground you lose cell coverage and your route instructions. It took me two trips to figure this out. I thought there would be WiFi or something but there wasn't. FWIW, I have Verizon and never had coverage below ground but I did see people on their phones so maybe there is a better service for use in London.

Not sure who everyone is with but I use Tmobile and the international plan was well worth it. No problems even in the deepest parts of the tube in zone 1

Great part of the city and right by where we stayed. Very nice to wake up with your morning coffee and walk over to see the changing of the guards. Tube options galore also . Got me wanting to go back to London now.

Also adding to the thread… the Harry Potter show in SoHo is fantastic(Harry Potter and the cursed child ). Pricey but very much worth it. I’m not even a big Potter fan and was blown away.
