The so and I will be taking an Alaskan cruise sometime with the next year. When is the best time to go and which cruise line is best. We aren't gamblers and we like to eat and drink. We'll be looking to spend as much time as possible off the cruise ship and out adventuring.

TIA

I've done two on Carnival. We went In August '08 and June of '13. First ship was the Spirit, second was the Miracle- I think. Weather was about the same each time of year. In '13 Alaska was experiencing a heat wave so it was in the 80s most of the trip which was kind of weird.

Completely different experience with Carnival in Alaska arse opposed to Carnival out Of New Orleans- much different clientele.

I know Carnival gets a lot of hate on here, but I was pleased on both trips. We went with them because they were the cheapest.

First time we went we got a balcony, second time we didn't because we found we didn't use it enough to be worth the extra expense. You may enjoy it though.

Awesome trip. Will probably go back for our 10yr Anniversary.

We went in mid July last year on Princess Cruise lines. Great trip! We have cruised on NCL and Carnival but Princess was much better.

We did Holland America Line many years ago and it was very nice.

We did Celebrity and it was incredible. I had previously only sailed on Carnival since it sails out of Nola. What a different experience. I know the clientele is going to be different on an Alaskan cruise but the ship itself, the servers, the decor - all of it was a huge upgrade. Plus their beverage package is truly all you can drink with no 15 drink limit.

We are doing Celebrity Alaskan again this summer.

We did Princess cruise from Anchorage to Vancouver the first week of June 5 years ago. Weather was great (needed jackets a few days). It may have been a tad early in the whale watching season, but we still saw some.

Key is to spring for a balcony room on the shore side. Most incredible scenery I've ever seen.

Parents took a Princess Alaskan cruise a few years earlier and got bumped up to one of the suites on the back of the ship. We weren't that lucky.

Why is it so nice on the back of the boat?

We got a balcony room on the back of the ship for our upcoming cruise. You get a much wider view as you can see whats on both sides of you and behind you. Great for just sitting and enjoying the scenery. You aren't missing what is going on on one side of the ship.

Not that you can go wrong with the views you have in Alaska but it will be nice to have a more expansive view.

In the aft you you would be able to look to your left and right and see more, as well.

Exactly. Also, their suite had a separate living room and bedroom, a full bathroom (perhaps with a tub) and a huuuuuuuge balcony. It was swanky.

Un-cruise adventures. The skip most touristy ports of call and visit bays, wilderness and wildlife. Zodiac, kayaks and hiking. They take you kayaking to hidden waterfalls where bears fish, etc. Some of their ships stay in glacier bay 2 days.

Boats hold 50-100 ppl. [link=(www.uncruise.com/destination)]Routes and Pricing[/link]

Best time for weather is may, best time for wildlife is late July.

Last year we went late June and saw tons of whales. This time we go the first week. I am afraid we won't see many this time. I fell in love with Alaska and the whales. It is the first time I ever went somewhere and truly felt that it was where I was meant to be. That is totally crazy because anyone who knows me knows I am NOT an outdoorsy, wildnerness type of person. I would have to live in a city but moving to Alaska would be a dream. I would love to have a summer home there someday, then come down for the winter and enjoy Florida or somewhere warm with a beach.

Yeah, understand that feeling. We had whales in the bay today and I never get enough of them. I left AK for a short while once but i guess the mountains, sea and wildlife are in my blood now.
