After going through all the hoops to get on a plane for getting to the airport to take off. Not only that but cabs/uber to get anywhere. Finally getting to my hotel from Memphis to Midway I realized flying isn't always the best option. I can probably go about ~8 hours in a car ride. I guess how many hours can you take it in a car?

If it is less than 10 hours or so and I'm staying multiple days, I will choose to drive 100% of the time.

It normally doesn't save me anymore time when I fly, less of a headache, and I control when I'll be home.

I've been stranded in shitty small towns too many time on short trips.

Yep. I hate flying and only do it if the ultimate destination is more than 10 hours, or if it's for work. I don't mind the actual flying, it's the hassle of getting to the airport, waiting in one line, going to wait in another line, sitting in the gate waiting to board, boarding, waitin g to take off, etc.

8 hours with the kids and their electronics is about as far as I can stretch them.

No. Prefer to fly always if possible. Maximum drive for me is 7 hours and I fly that one when ticket prices are low.

I absolutely hate driving for several hours or more. We do enough trips of ~3hrs to see family, that I really try to avoid making longer drives. At least if I'm flying I can have a drink or something during that time. Sitting behind the wheel of a car drives me nuts.

That said, cost is usually the determining factor.

Nope, nope, nope. Anything more than 6 hours drive, I want to fly. Well technically that's my limit with the kids, but I could do more and spread it out over two days if it were just me.

Getting into and through the Nola airport is easy and I"ve always kind of liked airports every where.

For the fourth of July weekend I had to go south of Houston to visit a friend. I used some SW points and flew instead of driving from Nola. No way in hell was I getting on the road on that weekend and getting stuck in Baton Rouge or on the Atchafalaya bridge traffic.

I'm more apt to drive. Added cost of plane tickets and a rental car, wait time, hassle with security, cramming my long-arse legs into a seat next to a random stranger... just not worth it to me for anything under a 10-12 hour drive. If I was someone who traveled enough to accumulate meaningful reward points, so that cost wasn't a factor, it would probably reduce my tolerance for driving.

If it's within reason (a drive you can make comfortably in one day) driving is the better option for me.

Years and years of a long commute has pretty much ruined me for road trips. Flying is always my choice. I have a brother that will drive cross country, and es always pestering me to drive somewhere or other. No thanks.

I generally use an 8 hour rule, but I do consider other circumstances. Driving is easier to carry a wide variety of stuff if necessary.

I've driven to Connecticut from South MS numerous times.

I won't even drive Houston/New Orleans now.

If I had some other reason why I couldn't fly I'd drive, but fly, fly, fly all day every day.

IMO under 8 hour drive is much easier than flying with kids, and can be much easier with just a wife. With kids you grab some snacks, some drinks, and throw in 2 movies and you are there in the car. Frick being a dad and having to load the car, then unload at the airport, carry everything through the airport, go through security, deal with kids in the airport, then rent a car, gather your crap, figure out the car seats in the new car, etc.

I travel to Houston on average once a month and drive 100% of the time. The airport experience is complete misery anymore, especially in larger airports. Plus I can mule beer back.

I used to enjoy flying before the airlines got so damned greedy and turned into assholes. If I am going out of the country, yes, I will still fly. However, if it is in the continental 48 states, I would just as soon enjoy a scenic and leisurely drive. Kids are on their own now, so that is no longer a factor. If I am driving, I can stop where I want to when I want to, don't have to wait in long lines forever, and don't have someone telling me how things are going to be once I am on the plane and essentially under martial law.

Drive. The closest airport to me is about 2.5 hrs. By the time I get there and deal with all the airport stuff I'm already about 4hrs in Then everything on the other end and return. Last time I flew from San Antonio to NOLA it took 12 hours because of delays.

I much prefer driving, don't care how long it takes. To be honest, I've gotten to the point where I like the drive more than I like getting to/staying at wherever I'm going.

You definitely have more independence driving not to mention control over your travel schedule compared to flying. Again, I used to fly more, but unless I am leaving the country, I'd just as soon drive these days. Also gives me a chance to see more of the country in terms of scenery.

Much prefer to fly. I don't find staring straight down the interstate for hours at a time in the least bit interesting. As for "standing in lines" repeatedly, you need to stop checking bags
