Headed to Italy and having some last minute possible changes. Would you rather spend two days in Florence or one day in each of Florence and then Pisa. We are doing one day in Montecatini, two days in Venice, then trying to decide if we want to do Florence saturday and then Pisa Sunday, or just do Florence both days? Basically is the leaning tower of Pisa worth it? I know I can make two days of Florence and still not see it all, but I also want to see as much as I can. Thanks for any advice.

I spent 2 days in Florence and didn't want to leave. I'd have hated to leave after only 1 day.

While i have never been to Pisa, i think only 1 day in Florence is an injustice. Loved our time there. Make sure you eat at Sostanza - get a reservation. also grab lunch at Mercado Centrale (food market) - get the beef sandwich at Da Nerbone - you won't regret it.

I would suggest two days in Florence and take one of those half-day excursions to Pisa, which are very common in Florence. There isn't much reason to stay more than a couple of hours in Pisa (from what I can remember).

2 in Florence for sure. I skipped Pisa both times I went to Italy and have never regretted it.

I'd spend the full 2 days in Florence. The leaning tower isn't overly impressive, and besides that, Pisa is just panhandlers trying to sell you fake designer items.

You can do Pisa on the way to Florence like we did. Nothing else to do except the leaning tower. Its cool to see imo. Lot more tilt than I imagined. Definitely don't need a whole day there. If you can't see it on the way to Florence, skip it completely.

I didn't learn this until my second trip to Florence. Absolutely a fantastic place to eat.

On the OP's subject - Pisa is very underwhelming (by Italian standards). I would have to spend about 10 days in Florence before thinking about Pisa.

IMO - Siena and Bologna are better day trips than Pisa.

If you eat at Sostanza and you should there is only one thing to order. Butter chicken.

It's been 20 years since I've been to Italy. Back then Florence pretty much shut down at noon on Sunday. If that is still the case, then I would recommend doing a quick excursion on Sun afternoon. In my opinion the leaning tower was very impressive when seeing it in person and was worth the stop on our way to Florence.

take train to florence. have a tour set up for saturday at 10 of accademia and then just explore on our own. stay there saturday night and explore again sunday till around 1-2.

take train to pisa (maybe) or just go back to montecatini and stay in hotel there and relax a litte.

wake up monday and drive to milan, go see the last supper and then whatever else.

any suggestions on places to eat? pretty much have our historical sights planned out, but any that maybe i dont and you think is a must?

Two days in Florence without a doubt. You can't scratch the surface of Florence in one day. Pisa is worth seeing but not at the expense of not being able to do Florence justice.

Two hours in Pisa is enough and rest of time in Florence.

Strong suggestion for Florence- purchase museum tickets ahead of time or you will not get in

You gotta do Uffizi gallery. Botticelli room alone is worth the flight. I would fly to Florence just to spend 2 hours in Botticelli room and then fly back.

Even in February? Been reading that it shouldn't be a problem this time of year.
