ok...interesting

so, since i use advanced uninstall to get rid of any leftovers from uninstalled programs...you're saying I'm just wasting my time running a cleaner, and by putzing around where I don't need to, nor do I have the proper training!

appreciate the feedback

well, I'm wondering if you'd think it would be worth it to pump up the mem to 8g from 4 it has

or is it not worth the extra effort as it [ cpu ] is too lame?

are you sure it can be upgraded? A lot of cheapie smaller notebooks have RAM directly soldered in, to save money and size.

If it is upgradeable, it might be worth it since RAM isn't that expensive, but it really depends on what you do with the laptop. If you run a lot of programs, but they aren't that CPU-intensive, then the RAM would help. If you don't run a lot of programs simultaneously, then you don't need a lot of RAM.

Just monitor it and see if its gets close to capacity. If you don't use it, it won't benefit from upgrading.

according to the acer rep who answered my ram question, yes. but a quick look at the bottom shows, most likely a key board lift to access the ram, so a bit of drama, not too bad.

but to answer the multiple programs...probably not so much that

but I have been known to run many multiple tabs...from 130 tabs and up to just shy of 300...hey, I like keeping my place in different spots...but if the crippled pentium is that lame, I may just leave it alone.

That sounds absolutely miserable. The browser equivalent of a desktop covered with icons. I hope you use an extension to help manage all that.

nope

they do disappear to the left and right of center
sometimes I just close entire browser for a 5min rest, then it's like new...for a while

I have yet to check out extension options at firefox, but soon...

Why in gods name do you need that many tabs open?

You realize that you are essentially running that many instances of your browser? That computer has to be dragging arse with that many tabs open.

I do get a sense of when it needs a rest to refresh itself

and it's a want vs a need

I suppose a habit developed along the way...several times forgetting what the site was and getting ticked off about it, kinda steered me in that direction , and I'm usually eyeballing the ram cpu dial when the tabs get huge, and it's no surprise to feel it drag a bit with mega tabs, but I try to maintain under 150

gonna next see what extensions can do for me...

Dude... that would drive me insane. More than 3-4 tabs and I start closing shite. Throughout a work day the most I get open is MAYBE 10.. and I start closing tabs bc I hate having tabs open.

I can use 100+ across multiple windows when doing research, but it's controlled. I've used tab management extensions, but it doesn't matter to me. I prefer organizing them into separate windows. I wouldn't attempt this on a $200 laptop. I also have two 27" screens' worth of real estate to work within.

well, my usual one is an i5 with 8g

alternative one, i7 with 12g

haven't come close to 50 on the new one, mainly putting it thru its' paces and checking out 10

lastly
I'd say the transition from 7 to 10 was as smooth as xp to 7...pretty user friendly so far

the only annoyance was restricting options on the updates...microsoft controls more, the user less

thanks

I knew they were communists...globalists like bill gates want population reduction so they can "manage" the herd among other ideas of their wet-dream

that type force people to do something cuz they "know better",
no such thing as free will to these people

I have a cpl of genius neighbors like that...blind in one eye, can't see out of the other...lucky to find their butts with a road map and both hands

well, even tho a so-called acer rep answered on amazon, yes it can be upgraded

once I took another look, only to discover it's a technician only install

everything was covered and protected, and the keyboard did not lift as I had presumed

dunno if it 's a solder job or not, but I'm not gonna try to tackle that one...
