What's a good Modem & Router for under $200?

I recently cut the cord with Suddenlink, and upgraded my internet speed to 200mb. I'm currently renting my modem/router from them and would like to buy my own to keep from paying them another $10. Will be used for streaming all my TV, gaming, downloading, etc. The only time I will be using WiFi is on phones or iPad, everything else will be a wired connection.

Anyone have any good recommendations for a modem/router combo for such a use that can be had for around $200 or less?

Get a certified refurbished SB6183 for $70 LINK

ASUS AC66U: LINK

The router is just one of the betters ones in the price range to keep you under budget, without knowing your home wireless network situation. The TP-LINK Archer C8 or C9 would also be good.

The modem has the necessary specs to prevent your downstream channels from bottlenecking your total bandwidth during peak times, in case you're in a neighborhood with a lot of subscribers and heavy users.

Is this true? I just purchased this today:

I only live in a 700 sq ft one bedroom apartment, so I don't need much coverage. Should I cancel the order and get a separate modem/router?

Dammit. Ok is it just the router that sucks or does the modem go bad too?

Same thing, just means you bought it in a store instead of online.

I'm sending the combo router/modem back

It just makes a lot more sense to buy them seperately and in the end it cost about $50 more. If it saves me even a little bit of frustration, that will be worth it. I guess that's what I get for buying something on a whim.
