T1 line for small business

Background: Small business located in a semi-rural area. DSL is garbage in this area (I was told we're farther from the hub than we should be). I have an option of going to U-Verse but it also runs into the distance problem or I can go with T1.
I know T1 is 1.5/1.5 but it's a constant connection. With an average of around 4 people using internet at any given time, will the speed be adequate? My only other option is going with a faster download speed w/ U-Verse but there's no guarantee what my actual speed will be at any given time.

What price are you getting on the T1? I would think even if you get half the download speed on Uverse it will still be cheaper AND faster than a T1.

1.5 is going to suck. How are your employees going to stream Netflix behind your back?

Depending on what they're doing on the internet it could work. Just don't expect to do much other than work on it. Streaming and videos are out of the question, but most functions for work will be fine. If you do remote backups they will take forever.

I suggest going this route. U-Verse works over DSL, so unless they have a node overloaded you'll generally get a stable amount of bandwidth.

T1 is going to run about $440/month.
For phone lines, long distance, and U-Verse internet it would be about $500/month.

Most of our clients have web based applications that we use to send/receive information so the primary use will be for accessing those... plus we play around on the internet.
My biggest problem is that sometimes I like to stream sporting events that go on while I'm at work... LSU games, etc.
I'm guessing T1 will not support that?

Can you find out how far away you are from the VRAD/IRAD for U-verse? You're good up to about 3000 feet, though you won't necessarily have access to the highest tier speeds. You can get consistent speeds with U-verse, but you have to make them bury new copper, because that's a major cause of inconsistency with U-verse. They try to use that old shite Bellsouth or whoever buried it decades ago.

If it's where the tech guy told me then it's about 4 or 5 miles away.

There's no way you get any DSL out of something that far away.

Where this guy told me the "main hub" was is about 4 or 5 miles away. I know there's another AT&T box about a mile down the road... not sure which is which.
Oh and I'm not wanting to stream HD movies or anything... but I would like to watch games on ESPN3 from time to time. Will T1 support that?

Which is exactly what's happening right now w/ DSL here. I guess the bright side is at least I would be getting consistent shite instead of intermittent shite.

Maybe ask about bonded T1, where you can get 2X, 4X, 6X or 8X the speed.

T1 is $440 and I got quoted a little over $700 for bonded T1. I guess upgrading is always an option in the future.
I didn't realize until recently that we were getting charged $700/month for 4 phone lines, long distance, and DSL. That's what got this whole thing started... when I called to ask them how the hell we were getting charged that much for crap. So I guess even if we had to do bonded for $700/month it would still be the same price we've been paying.

Have you looked into creating a cellular hot spot? Do you have 4G in your area? $700 a month will buy a lot of data.

quote:I was about to suggest this too. LTE is a lot faster than a T1, and is probably on par with the fastest DSL. The only issue is speeds drop off pretty quickly with signal strength, and could be erratic.

Another question: Let's say I go w/ the T1. I could also add a U-verse line for about $50-60 more.
How would that work having T1 and U-verse coming in? Could I use both feeds at the same time or would it be an either/or type thing? Like having the higher speed from U-verse but the dependability of T1.

Yea because the T1 would come in on a copper pair and the uverse would come in on a different copper pair. Where are you located. You might qualify for 10m fiber for not much more than $700. That would be 10 x 10 fiber.

I think you would just need one of these.
