Any tips or preferred providers in the BR area? (70817 specifically).
Finally looking at ditching the landline but we still need to monitor the alarm system.
TIA!

I didn't even know this was possible. It's the only reason we have a landline.

Just pick a local company. What brand and who monitors it now?

With the att outage, I didn't have connection for a few days, and every 24 hours, the panel would start beeping rapidly until you acknowledged it. It was fun having it fo off at 4am for several days. Im with Custom Security

Custom Security has cellular. We learned in the flood though that they use AT&T so when the cell network goes down, you lose the monitoring service.

I use ADT and I do not have a landline.

I've been using Simplisafe for a few months with no problems. Very easy to set up yourself.

I've used Custom Security with a cellular connection. There is a small monthly upcharge for cellular.

Another option is internet. If you have a DSC or Honeywell system, you can check out the Envisalink module.

ADT uses ATT and Verizon.

Command Central monitors it now billed quarterly through my installer.
I'm getting a quote from Custom tomorrow.

Will Simplisafe provide monitoring only? I though you had to get their whole system.
If I were starting from scratch I would definitely do a Simplisafe system and save the prewiring money during construction.

Do you know the brand panel ?

You have to have their equipment, but I thought it was fairly reasonable.

Andy,
Ask which cellular carriers your alarm communicaates on -- if it's AT&T, it'll be problematic right now due to many of their towers still being down due to the flooding, so be aware of that if you're installing/testing right now.
I also had hesitations on cutting the land line, but was forced to when we moved into an old house that had more problems with old/twicthy telecom wiring that gave the alarm fits. Cellular solved that issue until now.
Even with the cell towers being an issue, I'm amazed at how fast I get a text (usually within 1-2seconds) after an alarm is triggered. Phone calls from a monitoring service are nice, but a text with zone fault specifics is quicker and allows me to know what's up even if I can't immediately answer a call. I think that "classic" local systems (eg Custom Security) as well as newer global ones (SimpliSafe) all now have options for text alerts.

I've read that some alarm systems will work with an Obitalk device set up with Google Voice. May be something to try out.

It's a Gemini system. Custom gave me quote and I'm probably going to go with them.
$28.95 with monitoring and cell service. If I sign a 3 year deal the cellular equipment is included.
I have to get my original installer to come and unlock the panel first.

I've had the farm on wireless (cell) signal for alarms/fire through Verizon since 2012. AT&T also is a possible carrier.

That's a Napco, been around for decades.
