Is there a way that I can forward SMS/MMS to my old phone that I use for a mp3 player at the gym? I leave my phone in the cubbie because I have broken too many at the gym. Don't wanna miss anything if wife calls about anything regarding the babies. There is wifi in the gym. Maybe some app I am unaware of?

Assuming you don't have an iphone with imessaging, there are several wifi texting options, but I believe your wife would need to use the same app (whatsapp, viber, hangouts, etc).

The wife and I almost exclusively IM via hangouts which would work over wifi.

eta: I think you could do this with mightytext. I've never used it, so I don't know if it would work.

It will not work with the phone without data. It works with your computer but not another phone.

no there is a feature now where you can link your sms/mms's to your gmail hangout name.

then why was my old phone that was disconnected ringing my hangout texts for a while?

yea it needs data but you can connect it to wifi, which is data, and your old disconnect phone can do anything that only needs data(surf web, play games, pandora, hangouts, etc.).

Yeah I didn't mean wifi. I've tried this recently and everywhere I've read says this isn't possible without google voice.

ETA: hangouts works but SMS messages don't come through, just hangouts conversations

ok im a little lost. but oh well. my number did become a project fi number. so idk. but i think anyone can use hangouts and it will go to any tablet or "old phone" cause essentially an old phone not on any service plan is a tiny tablet.

Oh that's exactly why
Project fi does this. One of the main reasons I can't wait for my invite

Get mysms on both devices. I can send and receive texts from my tablet. Not sure about phone calls though.
