PhilipMarlowe, did you ever get this issue fixed? Now that you made this post, I continue to see the same big "blooming" spots on my TV too. Did you end up returning the TV or keeping it?

Itso not an issue. It's the only downside to this scren. Check out rtratings. The TV gets a low score in this aspect

Hey, been meaning to update.
Finally had the time to exchange the tv Saturday morning and have been messing with it ever since. Turns out that the pictures I posted in the first post happen on this tv too. Starting to think it's more content related issue (Amazon streaming) than it is the actual TV set.
I can see no noticeable difference between the two different tvs and their performance. So it seems it was basically just me being too picky and hyper-sensitive to certain issues. I'm glad I exchanged it however, because I would have constantly wondered if it just got a defective screen, so knowing that this is how it operates will put my mind at ease and I'll enjoy it more.
I still really enjoy the tv, if I didn't I would have exchanged it for a different brand of similar level. My only real criticism, apart from the tv being unable to reach internet speeds past 50-70mbps (though I haven't had any buffering issues except for a handful of 4K content streaming through the native plex app), is there is a bit of edge light bleed from the bottom panel, not enough to ruin it for me, but noticeable under certain conditions and settings.
All in all, I'm very happy with the tv.
Ps, if you bought extended geek squad service from Best Buy they will come to your house and exchange your tv if it's over 47". I can't tell you how big of a pain in the arse it was to load this 65" tv screen back up by myself and return it. When the little girl at the counter just threw that info out my head about exploded.

Why do you need more ?

I have some 4K movies I steam from plex, and it buffers when dealing with certain frame rates. Same content streams just fine over Xbox one S that's able to hit 200mbps down. Not a huge issue as it's just a few titles. And in the tv's defense I've had zero issues streaming UHD & hdr content from Netflix and Amazon apps. So just a small gripe.
Though I should add them not having a watchespn app as another complaint. That kind of blows my mind tbh, but it's something they could add in the future I guess.

You don't need that much speed for 4K

PhilipMarlowe, thanks for the update!
I guess all Samsung 8 series have these issues, but I really don't mind it. Like you said, it's happens every once in a while when I mainly watch streaming content from Kodi, Netflix, Amazon, etc. If I'm watching a Blu-Ray movie, then it's absolutely stunning with no issues. By far the best picture I've ever had on any TV I've owned. Also, any 4k content is phenomenal to say the least. The light bleed is very minimal from the edge/corners of mine.
Just curious, any idea why Samsung would decide to go with an edge lit instead of backlit for such an expensive TV?

Cost. Their flagship model has full array backlighting.

What's their flagship model? The 9 series?

Agree with all of this. There are a number of 4k videos on youtube that are just unbelievable to look at. And watching the revenant uhd blu ray on the xbox one s just looks incredible.
