This guy just blew:
Samsung PN64E7000 64-Inch 1080p 600Hz 3D Ultra Slim Plasma HDTV

Pretty sure it was terminal.

I guess plasmas are history so what would you buy?

Bright room, TV is mounted about 48" from the floor.

Suggestions are much appreciated.

There are still a few plasmas out there but they jacked up the prices

Yeah, like double.

No way I'm paying $4K for a $2K TV.

Depends on your budget. LG oled would be the pick or the Vizio 4k if on a budget

Around the same as the old one, I guess. ($2K)

I bought a square trade warranty on this one and. Assume if they don't repair it they will replace it.

If you like Panasonic this might be a good deal.. 65" 4k 3d

My 60" Sharp just went out and I really wasn't looking to spend much to replace it so I got a 65" Insignia Led to replace it for 699 from Best Buy

I bought a Vizio 65" from Walmart for 899.99. I love it. The only recommendation (this is for all tvs) is to buy a sound bar for it. It's the e series smart tv, not 4k or 3d (not worth the money in my opinion)

Costco still carries a 60" plasma Samsung, I bought one a few months ago for $699, figured that will last until oled becomes mainstream and les expensive.

Question: If I were to buy a Plasma now and then never use it until my main TV went out (to take advantage of the fact that they still exist and aren't too bad from a price point perspective), would it then last as long as a normal plasma?

I understand I may miss out on some of the bleeding edge baked in technology but the picture for me is markedly better.

I assume the plasma isn't going to lose life when it's not in use. That said, buying one to save and use at some point in the future doesn't seem wise because technology is going to quickly catch up and make better options available in the future.

You need LED, not plasma.

No way to tell. They are meant to be used, not to sit. Also, why in the world would you buy a depreciating asset and then not use it? Someone will continue to make plasma TV sets.

If buying one once I need it would cost me 3-4 times what the cost of banking one now at current prices would allow me to enjoy the same picture and preference for the tech I have, that's not a depreciating asset at all. Instead its a savvy investment that could potentially save me money.

Looks like lg oleds are moving down in price relatively quickly. I would gamble with your current plasma and hope that oled prices fall before it fails.

1. You are assuming costs are going to triple or more. Historically technology prices have decreased, even as innovation has increased.

2. The asset you own is still depreciating. You cannot compare it to completely different products.

If you're not looking to break the bank, I just went with a Vizio P65 and I love it so far. Picture quality and black detail is great. Don't use the smart features, but that doesn't really matter.
