Are they even worth it at this price point? I'd mainly be using it to upgrade my sound from the tv, but also using it for some gaming and listening to music. Thanks!

I have a Visio that I got on Amazon for like $99 that is typically $179. It's not great but not terrible. Easy install and I live in a small apartment so it works. Sound is a bit bass heavy for my tastes but it has been worth the money for my needs.

Soundbars have funky speaker orientation attempting to bounce rear channels off your room's walls to attempt to re-create a 5.1 -- I'd invest in a 2 channel, especially if listening to music.
For $300, I'd go with speakers and an amp

saw that one in a few other places for similar price. don't like that the sub is wired tho.

I liked that one, but you've still got to run wires to the rear speakers. If I'm gonna be up in the attic running wires, I'm gonna do a full surround setup
