FYI: Best Buy currently has the TiVo Roamio for $49.99. This allows DVR'ing of OTA HD channels. Not sure if it's a sale or if they lowered the price after the Bolt came out. I know it was $199.99.

Looks like Pensacola is actually slated to get U-verse fiber. Anyone have any experience with that? Worth holding out for it?

That doesn't include the programming guide. $475 with a lifetime program guide or pay $150 a year.

Can you sign up for the lifetime price later?

It sucks that the Mini doesn't have wifi capability for connection back to the Bolt or Roamio.

Yeah understand that. $50 is still a pretty good deal for the hardware.

Wi-fi wouldn't cut it for wheeling around recorded TV. The built-in MoCA is a smart way of getting around that without the expense of new wiring.

So I hooked up my TiVo Roamio. It lets me use the guide, pause, fast forward/rewind, and record all without the subscription. The only things it won't let me do is season long recording and using the apps (Netflix, etc.). Is that normal? I assumed I need the subscription to even record.

There perhaps is a day-by-day guide that is free and gives you some minimum level of function. That shouldn't have any effect on the apps. You do have to set up your apps by providing their logon credentials.

Have been doing a cord cutting trial week this week using Sling TV free trial on a new Roku 2 and OTA HD network channels using a Mohu Leaf 50 hooked up to a TiVo Roamio. Loving it so far. Also have a Chromecast in the bedroom. Will probably be canceling UVerse in the next couple of days. Gonna save $950 dollars a year

Sorry, sure this has been discussed in this thread at length but can you give me a quick run down on Sling TV. Is it a one time fee or do I have to buy a sports package with it? Or can I literally get every channel "slinged" to my tv at home for a one time fee? I would love to do this and cancel cable. I also have Apple tv and would probably get an HD antenna just in case. TIA

EDIT: Also, what about recording shows? Can that be done via Sling or I need to buy one of the devices discussed above?

Go to the Sling TV website and find the information yourself or look through this thread for it.

I looked through the first 5 or so pages and didn't see much. Also, slingbox site says "Slingbox.com is currently undergoing maintenance. During this time you may: etc...."

Earlier when I looked I found a good bit of info, just wanted to hear from someone personally since it I thought it was being discussed but LesGeaux45 was actually talking about SlingTV.

Sling Box and Sling TV are two different things. You need to go to SlingTV.com. It essentially allows to to be able to stream live TV via various devices (Roku, Chromecast, iPad, etc.) The base package is $20 per month and has about 25 channels. They have various add on packages for sports, movies, kids, HBO, etc. for an extra monthly charge. The website will have more details.

Alright people, I ordered the fire stick. Step 1 of the cord cutting process. Will test it out before switching over and getting an additional stick or the firetv for the living room.

Any tips/videos/links for getting kodi on that thing? And any additional tips on what all I need to do with kodi once put on the fire stick?

First off, a lot of the tutorials you find when googling about installing kodi will tell you that you need to download a couple files to your computer and then mess with a bunch of settings on the fire stick. I just put it on mine this weekend and bypassed all that. There was an error message I kept getting when trying to run the adbfire utility on my mac. Apparently, it's common with the new version and they've got a way to do it without all that.

Just google something like "installing kodi on amazon fire stick"

Then afterwards google "best kodi addons"

There will be some step by step instructions that make it all pretty easy. I was confused as hell reading about it Friday, but yesterday I spent a little bit of time searching and reading and it's actually pretty simple with the guides out there.

ETA: LINK I think the tutorial linked in this thread is the same one I used. You need to get the ES File Explorer app from Amazon.

I did that last night with just the FireTv and it worked out. I had a slight issue after downloading kodi when trying to install. It would hang up...but somehow when I was angrily smashing buttons on the remote it worked

Then I added some add on "package" that I cant remember the name off hand but it loaded up a bunch of supposedly good add ons rather than one by one. Pretty cool so far but havent started watching anything yet.
