Can any of you tech savvy types help me with strategies to limit data usage on iPhones? I don't have unlimited data, and we have gone over our 6Gb for the last 3mo. Other than the obvious (only using wifi) any suggestion on settings çhanges.TIA

You can go into your settings and check data usage per app. You can also turn off mobile data per app.

Out of curiosity how many phones are you trying to split 6 GB of data among?
I have androids, but options should be similar. Turning off background data for everything except important apps would probably be the biggest help. If you have a shared data plan, you can also look into limiting the data hog in your group. Finally, all carriers now offer plans that throttle after you go over your cap so you would still have (very)limited data without paying for overages. Make sure you are taking advantage of that option.
Honestly, you may want to just look at upping your plan. Unlimited isn't necessarily the route to go, but you should look into a plan that fits your usage without having to count mbs every month. I couldn't imagine having less than 6 GB per line. Hell we blow through 150 GB of cellular data a month between my 5 lines. Smartphones can consume a ton of data nowadays and we tether a lot on top of that.

Turn off WiFi assist. If this is turned on (it is by default), your phone uses cellular data when the WiFi signal is "weak". Who knows at what point, your phone decides the signal is weak...so best to keep it off unless you have no WiFi.
