Anyone have any experience? I actually have both right now and will return one of them but seeing if anyone has been using the Book for a while and what they think? I got both with an i5 256GB SSD.

I though the Book would be better all around but I notice the processor is 2.4 GHZ 2.5 GHz on it vs 2.5 2.71 GHz on the Laptop. Guy at the store tells me the graphics card is better on the Book so that makes up for lesser speed, is that true?

The specs say the screen is better on the Book but I can't tell a difference.

I do like the keyboard and trackpad on the Book better as it is a larger layout and faster.

I don't care about the detachable tablet on the Book. I do like that the Pen came with the Book even if I never will use it much

The Laptop is lighter and very sleek looking. Faster processor.

I do travel a lot for work so lighter is better but the Book is only about a half pound heavier at 3.3lbs but that adds up.

Anyone else have either one or tried both, thoughts?

ETA: The Book was on sale so it was $1,499 and the Laptop was $1,299. I'm fine with $200 more but I guess I'm looking for opinions on the processor the most.

Clock speed doesn't mean a damn thing if we don't know the CPUs in each.

What are the spec sheets of each computer?

Unless the touchscreen is a big deal I would go with the laptop.

See I dunno. There's some factors to consider here and it all depends on what you do.

The Surface Laptop comes with a "S" operating system and I believe it requires an extra 100$ to get the "full Windows 10 OS". That basically allows you to install 3rd party apps outside of the windows store, which is basically a necessity in todays day and age.

The Surface book seems to be much more "hybrid'ish" in the sense that it can be a clamshell laptop + a tablet by disconnecting the keyboard + a writing tool/tablet by spinning the keyboard around to the back. To me, that's appealing for versatility and to be the 1 stop shop for all device needs.

The Surface Laptop is newer and the battery lasts longer but is a traditional laptop. I think it can be written on with the Surface Pen but that's clunky as writing with a pen to a clamshell laptop is just not functional.

Just my 2 cents. I would go to BestBuy and touch and play with both. See what you like.

I have a Lenovo X1 carbon and the battery last like 8-10 hours depending on the power settings.

We also have a Surface 4 my daughter uses and a HP x360 with a touchscreen and outside of my daughter using it for art (Surface) the touchscreen is not used very often.

Think that drove me to get a non-touchscreen laptop.

Wanna sell me the Surface 4? I'll buy you a Matt Ryan jersey!

Yea, I used to have a Surface Pro 2 years ago. Ditched it a while back for a traditional/clamshell laptop and now I miss the Surface. I use my stuff more for media consumption though between football games, fantasy stats, Netflix, etc.

As long as it says "atlanta blew a 28-3 lead"

Media consumption is my Ipad. I may also get a 12 inch, have the itch.

That said, surface series are sweet devices, light and powerful. My x1 is money though.

And the dedicated graphics in each? You won't ever notice the difference in CPUs.

If it's just for general media consumption, then get the cheaper one all day since both will be plenty enough power, or get the one you think you'll like best

Both have the touchscreen. The Book comes with the Pen, you have to buy it for the Laptop but not really thinking I need it much.

They give a free upgrade to 10 Pro which I already did. The Book came with Pro. So I'm running same OS.

I have both in my hands a I mentioned in the OP. I like the keyboard better on the Book and that's really important to me. But I like the lightweight Laptop for sure and that's important. I don't care about the detachable tablet. I have an iPad.

Laptop has Intel HD Graphics 620. It's also 7th gen Intel Core i5.
Book has NVIDIA GeForce with 6th gen Intel Core i5.

Does the Laptop have the edge in processing speed? I don't game or use video editing software, etc so not sure if the graphics card matters as much to me?

Yes, ever so slightly. I believe the biggest different on those boards is battery life. The Surface Laptop will probably get 1-3 more hours battery life based on general usage.

From reading your posts, if you like the keyboard better and you already have an iPad, I'd probably go with the Surface Laptop, especially since it's cheaper.

You're not reading my posts that well. I like the keyboard on the Book better. I like the weight of the Laptop better and it's got what appears to be a faster CPU and processing speed but I don't know how much the difference really is.

Oh sorry, I must've misread then. My bad. I also blame MS for their product naming. Surface Book and Surface Laptop are not very distinguishing. I do get them mixed up frequently in tech conversations with co-workers.

To me it boils down to the answers to the questions below:
Will you be travelling for school/work a lot with either device?
Do you like having 1 device that works as a tablet and laptop?
Which device feels better to type on?
Do you draw or need to edit documents with a pen?
Will you ever be sitting with either device in bed/laying down? (sometimes tablets are better for this than laptops)
Is there a price difference that would sway you one way or the other?

Pretty much all your questions are what I'm asking myself

I was hoping someone was going to say the i5-7200 2.5 2.7 GHz was much better than i5-6300 2.4 2.5 GHz. It doesn't sound like that's the case. I'd like to keep the Laptop because of the lightweight and somewhat faster processor. Although it seems the graphics card is better on the Book. I definitely like the keyboard better on the Book. It's a tough one. I'm gonna go into the Microsoft store and talk to them about both.

ETA:

Do you like having 1 device that works as a tablet and laptop? No need, it's kinda cool though so I may use it
Which device feels better to type on? Book for sure
Do you draw or need to edit documents with a pen? No, but again it's kinda cool and I may use it since I have it
Will you ever be sitting with either device in bed/laying down? (sometimes tablets are better for this than laptops) Never
Is there a price difference that would sway you one way or the other? The Book was on sale so instead of being $500 more it was only $200 more so price isn't a concern

Ignore specs. They are so similar that you are not going to notice a difference. Use both and decide what feels better to use. If you still can't decide, go with the cheaper one by default.

I was hoping you'd respond. Thanks

The Book by far has the better keyboard. The Laptop is real sleek and lightweight. I'm leaning to keeping the Laptop because of the weight since I travel so much but I'm struggling a bit with the keyboard. I'm guessing I'll get used to it and better with it. I'm going into the Microsoft store this week to see if they can show me any tips/tricks.

Go with the one with the better keyboard. Microsofts nomenclature is so fricked up im not sure which one that is, despite reading through this entire thread.
