think he was saying that his old late 2008 MacBook with a Core 2 Duo was too obsolete to run the applications he needed these days, crediting the longevity of his machine that he hadn't needed to replace it.

Yeah I get that, but its not some special magical machine. We still have plenty of Dell machines in my company that are that old that we are just phasing out that likely cost a lot less than that Mac.

Kudos to him if he likes his Mac, but Mac lovers always amuse me

You realize that Macs don't run some super special Apple processor right?

When exactly did self righteous computer nerds make the switch from Apple to PC?

The worst part of a Mac....the hardware is top notch without a doubt.

I prefer MacOS to Windows, but I like gaming and building PCs, so I use a mix of both.

I love my macbook. Bought in early 2015 and still runs like a brand new computer.

Honestly I've not had a virus or any of that type of stuff since Windows XP....it is more of a person problem than a PC problem.

This is true of 98% of the complaints on Windows. There was another thread in here on Windows 10 bugs....there wasn't a single bug in that thread. A whole bunch of PICNIC issues but not one single bug.

Because it's only two years old, which is nothing for components these days

While I agree with you that anyone that buys a Mac these days is insane...to compare it to an Acer Chromebook is either stupid...disingenuous...or both.

i think it was another subtle shot that people that buy mac only use it for word processing, web browsing, and photo editing a chromebook or your phone can do.

ETA: I've yet to try a Chromebook, but based on what I've read it won't meet my needs.

well by all means, allow an article you've read to form the basis of your opinion. if you look back through my posts on here i ridiculed the chromebook until i bought one for my daughter who is in high school who is a HUGE apple fan.

she freaking loves it. i love it. there's almost nothing you can't do with it and the KILLER APP???

--- wait for it ---

the battery life.

that fricking 10 hour battery life easily gets you through a day or 2. thats TEN HOURS OF CONSTANT USAGE, not that it dies after 10 hours.

its worth it for that alone, but the fact its ready to go BEFORE you can completely raise the cover is the icing on the cake. no more waiting 30 seconds for my sleepy little dell laptop to start spooling up resources and shite before i can actually do anything on it.

so...what is it you want to do that a chromebook won't meet your need?

and if you come back here after googling 'what can i not do on a chromebook' and claim that bullet-list of things as your 'critical needs' i will laugh at you.

It's not bullshite....the typical Mac user will get viruses just as fast or faster than a typical Windows 10 user...nothing there is bullshite.

Now if you aren't a typical user, aka one that can police your internet usage and knows not to click on idiotic links and emails, then you can get away on either OS without any protection.
