Just buy a fire stick or fire tv for the normal price and sideload Kodi yourself. It's very easy to do. There are a ton of videos that show you how to do it. Don't overpay for one on ebay.

I have installed Kodi onto a couple of firesticks, and I have a couple of MXQ boxes that came with Kodi preloaded.

What do you guys do for a VPN when using Kodi on a firestick/amazon box? Are you not worried about going to the sites without any protection/masking?

No, not worried.

OP, some of these boxes don't come with the apps like watchESPN, Playstation Vue, Sling TV, etc. Fire TV does, and you can easily..EASILY, sideload KODI onto it.

I've loaded watchESPN on mine and it works great. Just need to make sure that it's an Android box that has the play store available. I've run into 2 apps so far that don't work/work properly. I can't get the Dish Anywhere app to run at all, and the box isn't certified for Netflix, so it won't stream in HD. If you're using Kodi, then it's probably not a big deal.

Stay away from the torrent streaming addons and you'll be fine. Exodus is probably the best and most used addon for TV and movies.

After a laptop, the nvidia shield is your fastest and most future proof option.

When will then be now?

Shield is by far the best Android option, but it has its shortcomings. If you want HD Audio passthrough, 10-bit video, frame packed MVC 3D, then you'll have to look elsewhere, like Intel NUC or Raspbery Pi3.

The reason I ask about the devices on ebay is, they come with extra sports, movie and PPV features. Seems like a lot of value.

Like this one

Are the majority of features free?

It's worth side loading yourself just so you understand how it works in order to be able to update things periodically

All of it is free and honestly, a lot of it is crap. Also, it looks like it has the Beast build of Kodi which is garbage. IMO, you don't want anything but plain KODI. There are various builds that work great for a while but all builds become crap over time.

This. Spend the time to understand how to customize a skin of your liking for menus, etc. and you will be infinitely happier only installing the add-ons you want.

Yup..just go in and remove Weather, Music, etc, from the main menu and just leave Video, Program and Settings.

Set up short-cuts and it'll be clean, smooth, and simple.

Is this the equivalent to hacking the DirecTV H and HU cards that were so popular 10 + years ago?

Does Kodi do 4K and how is the quality?

I assume to do 4k you'd have to side load it on a fire tv instead of stick..
