Iphone/Imessage issues: receiving texts/calls from multiple lines

Recently my wife and I have been receiving each other’s texts and calls on our phones. We have one apple id that both phones are linked to. I used to be able to deselect her number from my phone and it would take care of the issue but now when I deselect it, it automatically reselects itself.
Any way to resolve this? Does she need her own apple id?

I highly recommend setting up two different iCloud accounts. You can still link them through family share.

Not to throw OP under the bus, but I have no idea why anyone would share an account. I had to fix this problem with my inlaws, who also had some of their kids sharing their ID. They finally all have separate accounts. Now we are experiencing, the 'oh Apple only gives us 5 free GB of data, yet I can't backup/setup a new phone and now I have to pay $1 a month for more space'
and dont get me started on trying to get them to buy external HDs so they can backup their macs and I wont have to restore the hard way.....
thats what I get for being the family tech support, fun times.

Same thing happened to us about 2.5 years ago. We switched off from Sprint to Verizon. My wife was set up on my apple ID since we bought several apps and I signed in to my account to download them for her. I didn't realize when I did this that I was also setting up her iCloud and apple ID on the phone. She got a few of my text messages and when someone tried to facetime me it rang on her phone too. Simplest thing is to set up an apple ID for her. She never buys anything on it, except maybe a song or two occasionally. But that solved the duplicate issue for us. She also has an iPad mini and likes getting the texts on that as well as the phone, so sort of killed two birds with one stone.

Go to Settings>Phone>and make sure Calls on Other Devices is turned off.

Would that be a good thing if you have kids so you can see their texts ?!

I had to undo this on my 6 and my 4s that the lady was borrowing. All calls and texts were showing on both phones. Did the upgrade do this? I know folks had to have gotten busted lying and cheating cause of this mess. Its a cool feature to have if u really feel to use it maturely and respectfully. Its not a glitch right? Just a creepy feature?!

This.
We've shared the same iTunes/iCloud for years and it was never a problem until we switched to VZ, but also went with the 6 so it might be that.
