I'm about to go Office Space on a printer

It's a Brother HL-3140CW, and that fricking "Drum! Slide the green tabs..." message won't go away. I've slid the fricking tabs countless times (and put them back in the right position), cleaned the contacts as suggested on one forum, reset the drum counters, reset the printer to factory settings, unplugged/waited/restarted. This fricking thing is just taunting me at this point.
This is more of a rant than a cry for help, but if any of you think you can help you have about 10 minutes before I take it out back.

Are you sure it doesn't just want you to replace the drum? The most reliable feature in any printer is its ability to make you buy things for it.

quote:The error message for replacing the drum is either "Drum End Soon" or "Drum Stop". Either of those can be resolved by resetting the drum counters (which I've done). But this fricker is telling me "Drum!" (I did not add the !, that's what this shithead says on the display), which means either the corona wires need to be cleaned by sliding the green tabs OR the toner cartridge and/or drum units aren't installed correctly. I know they're in there right, it's really hard to frick that up.

quote:I know, but I'm not about to buy a set of 4 drums for $140 when I can buy a whole new printer (same model so I can use up the hundreds of dollars of toner I already have stocked for it) for $190 and take this one out back and work out some issues.

Look at this a-hole "Drum !!!111EXCLAMATIONPOINT".
Don't you just want to punch that motherfricker?

It may want you to rhythmically tap on its case. Wouldn't that be comical?

Are you using a Brother drum? Some printers will give you errors if you are trying to use an after market/non OEM drum.

quote:Well I think I scared it, too. I left it unplugged for about 10 minutes yesterday, but apparently that wasn't sufficient. I left it unplugged all night and it started working again today.
Printers smell fear
If this thing gives me any more shite I will update this thread with pics of a destroyed printer.

I can't wrap my head around why consumer (maybe all) printers in 2015 are still such unreliable pieces of shite.
It's baffling actually all the examples of human advancement we have around us and printers haven't noticeably improved in the last 20 years.

1. No money in it.
2. Business level printer are pretty reliable but no one wants to spend the money or have a printer that large.

Old bump because I'm about to do it again. This time with an HP 8710.
This motherfricker is bitching about a rebuilt cartridge not being installed correctly. I've found one instance of someone with this printer who says this was never a problem until HP pushed an automatic firmware update that made it a problem. Of course this happened after the printer was out of warranty. How can they disable functionality after the product is out of warranty? frick HP!
Does a printer exist that just works? Are there any honest printer manufacturers? I print like 50 pages/month, I'm not buying a commercial grade printer.

Note to self; Korkstand is not allowed within 150 feet of any printer. All levels of force are authorized to enforce perimeter.
