How often do you upgrade your smartphone?

At the previous $649-$769 price range, I was doing it every 2 yrs or so. Now with the newer iPhones approaching $1000, I might have to switch go upgrading once every 3 years. I just can't justify spending so much on phones. It's not like they get considerably slower anyway, given the powerful hardware they come with these days.

I know this is from an iPhone user's perspective, but will be curious to hear from Android users as well.

I still use a Oneplus One. But then again I'm a stingy bastard.
Also its finally starting to show its age.

I've been doing 2 years...more out of the desire for something new and shiny than a need.

Usually every two years when Sprint was still going phone contracts but I've had my 6+ since 2014.

Looking to replace by the end of the year. Probably try out the S8.

It's usually around the 2-1/2 year mark, when I start to notice a loss of battery life.

I've always done it every two years since my company is still on the old AT&T subsidized plans where you get a discounted phone every two years. But it's been 3 years since I got my iPhone 6, the 7 wasn't different enough for me to upgrade. I'll get the X when it comes out because the 6 is starting to get really slow.

Used to be every year on the old contract way. I've had my 6+ for three years now and I paid cash for it. I'm ready for a new one.

Every year, because I'm a poor and worthless sheep.

Even worse that I recognize this and still continue to do it.

I've pretty much done it every other year.

Phones I've owned:
iPhone
iPhone 3G
iPhone 4
iPhone 5
iPhone 6
iPhone 7

I didn't even really feel the need to upgrade from the iPhone 6 to the iPhone 7, but I did it anyway because I wanted a universal unlocked phone.

Also, for the majority of the time I've had iPhones, I've been on the old-style AT&T plans, where you pretty much were forced to always pay the subsidy even after your contract was up, so your options were to keep paying for nothing, or selling your existing phone you now own for like $300 and paying the $200 up-front for the new model. So that pretty much forced me to upgrade anyway.

Typically every two years, but the past couple years I've done yearly upgrades because 1. Pixel marketing got me to move from 6P to Pixel, and 2. I'm trying iPhone this year (8+).

I did the iPhone upgrade program for this one, so if next year all iPhones are bezeless oleds like this year's iPhone X, I'll probably upgrade to that as well. Especially if they figure out the touch ID under the screen thing.

2008 - Samsung Omnia, which was windows based.

December 2010 - I picked up a used OG Droid about a year after it was released.

Feb 29, 2012 - Droid 4. Kept waiting for them to release another Droid with slide out keyboard, which still hasn't happened.

July 2015 - Had to get something, so went with the LG G3. Probably could have kept going with it longer than I did.

February 2017 - Pixel XL, which I got after a long wait on backorder.

I'm hoping to get at least 3 years out of the Pixel XL.

I just replaced a 4-1/2 year old iPhone 5 with an iPhone SE. Good battery life.

Just went from the 5 to the 8. You will love it. Verizon gave me $450 trade in value for my Note 5.

I got the iPhone 4 in September 2011 and the iPhone 6+ in November 2014. Will get either the Pixel 2 or iPhone X later this year.
