Has anyone cut the cord and moved to SlingTV?

This seems like a really interesting prospect to me as it includes ESPN and some other good channels for only $20/month. And on top of that you can add a sports and/or other channel packages for $5 each. Sucky thing is it doesn't look like it's on Apple TV yet but if it does I may consider making the switch.

Couple questions:
1) Is it only channel streaming or is there any On-Demand? I feel like I would greatly miss DVR capability, but obviously on-demand would fix that.
2) How would you get basic cable to all your TV's? I have Satellite right now so I'm assuming I'd have to switch to an antenna or something and route through the current cable?

Yes.

Kinda sucks.

Most channels work fine but the ESPNs buffer a good bit, for me anyway.

But it gives you access to watchespn so i usually watch it through that.

I guess for $25(for secn package) i cant complain too much.

No dvr/ondemand though they have hbogo ondemand.

I have an antenna for networks which works great. $5 antenna from amazon

For a true sportsfan, Sling sucks.

If you just need to watch a couple of games a week during football season, you might be able to tolerate it.

The quality is bad. Streaming hangs up a lot. The Sling app sucks.

I pretty much just used it for WatchESPN but that app has the same slow buffering problems as the sling app.

It worked for me to watch LSU games but it isn't great. If you want HD tv, it won't work.

There is a delay. You might get a call or text from a friend after a big play, and you haven't seen it yet.

If ESPN is the only channel that has the issue, but it also grants WatchESPN access, I could just watch it on there.

I generally agree with the above, but I will say Sling has been pretty solid during the bowl games the last few days. Hope it's a sign they're improving reliability.

To me the nice thing about Sling is that you can very easily rearrange what packages you want at the drop of a hat.

For example, now that LSU is done playing I will probably drop ESPN but focus on international soccer. Or you can pick up something else that interests you. You just log onto their website, click to make adjustments, and you're set. Or you can just drop them entirely until something else crops up that you want to see, and renew then.

OTOH, changing packages with my local cable provider is a major production. I have to actually call someone and deal with being asked why I want to switch away from their supposedly incredible service. And, oh, by the way, wouldn't I want to try out their exciting new package for only $20/month?

frick that. Sling lets you switch back and forth as you like on their website. Or cancel entirely.

Regarding reception, I have a 200Mbps downlink and have not had any problems but YMMV.

SlingTV is terrible. During peak hours on prime programming, have fun getting it to load.

Yeah I've got 100 right now and would even consider going to 150 with the savings from DirecTV.

With all the folks saying it's slow/laggy/whatever, I wonder if it's not only random internet speeds, but also the hub being used. I imagine Apple forcing them to streamline the heck out of the app when it comes to them.

I just posted this in the cutting the cable thread.

"Sorry, sure this has been discussed in this thread at length but can you give me a quick run down on Sling TV. Is it a one time fee or do I have to buy a sports package with it? Or can I literally get every channel "slinged" to my tv at home for a one time fee? I would love to do this and cancel cable. I also have Apple tv and would probably get an HD antenna just in case. TIA

EDIT: Also, what about recording shows? Can that be done via Sling or I need to buy one of the devices discussed above?"

I see its a monthly fee, which is fine. For some reason I thought it hooked up to an existing cable box and that it how you got the channels. Guess not. I see some of my questions have been answered in this thread

Tried Sling. Couldn't stand it. Too much buffering and too many audio sync issues.

Works great for me. I use the app on an Amazon Fire. When I've tried it just on a PC it sucked. Works fine on my phone too. Agree that you should use the watchESPN app because is better. One stream is kind of a bummer but I can deal with that because of options and low cost.
