Well my prodding of Newegg worked! Ships friday!
OK Dam, give me the best newbie drone guide you have seen. Anything that helps 'get off the ground' so to speak?

You don't really need it with this thing, it's stupid easy to fly. It lands and takes off by itself. Just go somewhere open that has some flat ground that you can use as a take off/landing point with no high grass/weeds or put something down like a piece of wood you can use. You will get the hang of it no problem. It starts you off in easy mode and you have to go into settings to turn it off. Then you have to take an additional step in settings to allow the switch that lets go into high speed (sport) mode to get full power with no sensors. So it makes sure to get your back.
Drone Valley has a very nice guide on youtube how to set your gimbal settings. You want to get those smoothed out. It's terrible in stock settings.
GO THROUGH EVERY SETTING ON THIS THING BEFORE YOU FLY. There is a lot to set that you need to decide for yourself.
Set your return to home altitude high. You want it to make sure it clears everything when it comes back home. Return to home height only works when it is forced to return home. If you manually trigger return to home with the button, it will return at the height it is at when you press return to home.

Good info!
As went ahead and set up an account with the FAA. Hadn't put my $5 in to get a reg number yet, this sounds dumb but does it come with a marking strip of some sort to put the tail number on?
I have been playing with Airmap app on iphone to see where i can fly and what airport i need to contact. When it comes to heliports, is it just a "be cautious" situation and not having to call them? Is there any rule that as long as you fly it say under 50 feet then you dont have to contact airports? In Atlanta its hard to get away from airports so just curious.

You just have to write number on drone or any sticker and put in battery compartment or anywhere else. Under battery is most logical place. Also have my cell number on it.
I've been told homeowner insurance covers loss of drone or liability if injury occurrs to people or property as long as you are following all he rules while operating it. I'm most concerned about liability. It is uncomfortable feeling when it is so far away that something might go wrong.
Edit: saw discussion about a guide. Just watch the DJI tutorials on YouTube. Also, it is very easy to fly. We were in 8-12 mph winds and that thing just sat there in the same location and hovered. I couldn't believe it was adjusting for the wind so smoothly. No matter how high up, it would sit and hover wherever we left it. We did get high wind warning in controller at one point.

Sorry still thinking with my normal flight mind expecting it has to be visible on the tail
Good info on the insurance too.

I printed my info out and put some clear tape over it under the battery. I had some vinyl cut stickers I made for it, but I took it off and put some WW2 stickers with the shark mouth and star/bar setup.
The helipad thing gets confusing, some say yes and some say no. It's no for Part 107, but really unclear for hobbyists since it says if a control tower is present on the hobbyist part. Controlled airspace requires a call to the tower for flight no matter the height. If you are really close to the airport they will probably deny you.
State Farm has drone insurance for like $60 a year it's a personal articles policy specifically for drones.

How about the DJI care refresh offer? Is there anything that covers you if your drone flies off by itself?

Vinyl cutters are pretty useful for making stupid stuff. I got ahold of pink sticker paper and put pink penis stickers on all my friends cars in places you don't really look often on your own car, but everyone else sees when driving. I got the under side of one of my friends motorcycles and forgot I did it. Apparently he never found it and went to US129/The Dragon and got pics of him riding it up there. The pink penis was in a ton of the pics and he was so mad.

Visit the mavicpilot forum online. Lots of info.
A few people have lost drone ( flying over 1,000 feet high and/or 2 miles away in a city) and they sent flight log details to dji to be reviewed for drone error signals. On one occasion dji sent the person a new drone. They had no insurance or replacement care form Dji. It appears the will step up and replace a drone if flight log shows drone issues.

How is this even possible? Isn't the ceiling 400?

Because they set their max height higher and flew up there. I may fly out of line of sight "accidentally" lol.

I have a lot to learn. I thought they were regulated to a ceiling.
My Mavic is shipping out today.

FAA says don't fly over 400 feet, DJI comes set at 400 feet limit from where it takes off. You can set it higher. Some people break it just like a speed limit.

I now feel DJI is trolling me. Newegg says "shipped" on Friday. It is still in "packaging".
