Considering this. My only hesitation is I had dish network years ago and the signal would go out if it rained and sometimes if it got cloudy. This is supposedly not near the issue it was years ago. I know many here are cord cutters, but I'm sure some of you have/had this service. Did you lose the picture during bad weather or storms?

Anyone recommend this? Or recommend to stay away?

It will go out in a thunderstorm or a downpour. Rare that a rain event like that lasts more than a few minutes though, so as long as you're ok with the potential of 5-10 mins without service, you won't be disappointed.

It's definitely not the same as it was years ago where it would go out with any little storm or rain.

Mine only goes out if it's a quite heavy rain/downpour, light to medium rain/storm and no issues.

It's really not a concern or issue anymore that should prevent someone from getting the service IMO.

Accurate.

I have direct TV.

I enjoy it.

You can get a hell of a deal as a new subscriber. Work them in the phone too.

Just watch your bill. They like to give you deals then have it go up on price

I heard they have or are going to add 4K channels. Anyone know for sure?

They have three 4K channels at the moment.

-Channel 104: a full-time channel with mix of 4K fare, including nature documentaries and original content from the DirecTV/AT&T Audience Network.

-Channel 105: a full-time pay-per-view movie channel with full-length features and short-form documentaries.

-Channel 106: An event channel with free 4K live events, including this week’s Master’s coverage, as well as pay-per-view events.

I'll also add that even in the rare instances it goes out the standard definition channels usually don't go out. It has to be tropical storm conditions or worse for the standard definition channels to go out.

This is what many do not realize. Switching to SD during inclement weather greatly reduces the amount of times you will completely lose the signal.

My Direct would go out in heavy rain or clouds. PITA, but Comcast used to go out more often and for longer when I had it.

Recently upgraded my Direct equipment to the Genie system, new dish too, and it rained like hell for a week after that. I was amazed at how the signal came through despite the pouring rain.

It has frizzed out during some horrible weather, but mine is much improved with the new gear. The Genie also gave me a much better picture than I had with my old equipment.

My thing is if it goes out during a football game i will lose my shite.

I had Cox cable for years and it literally never went out. Switched to Uverse because it was cheaper and it has went out less than 5 minutes maybe 3 times since 2013.

I'm also considering Sony Vue.

This hit the nail on the head. And if anyone can't handle a few minutes every once in a while, he or she needs to get some perspective on life. Admittedly, I need to quit watching tv so much.

I can totally handle it going out, just not during a Bama or Saints game.

If you decide to get it, don't let the installer leave without getting at least a 99 signal on all of the satellites.

If you sign up the installer should be using an AIM meter to peak the dish. If used properly this will get you the strongest possible signal.

Before I was trained to install dtv I would be on jobs installing uverse internet and VoIP while a dtv employee or contractor would be installing dtv. Not once did I ever see or hear one of them using the meter and the meter makes pretty loud beeps when locking on to the satellites .

I am convinced that most people who have signal issues had an installer who didn't peak the dish properly. Remember a degree or two off on earth translates to several hundred miles when trying to aim at the orbital slot where the satellites are located .

I've had Dish for almost 16 years now. It's very rare that I lose signal. The Hopper 3 supports 4k. Let me know if you'd like a referral code for $50 off.

I missed the entire 1st half of the Bama/West Va game a couple of years ago because a storm hit right as the game started. It even knocked out the SD channel. It'd come back, and the storm would re-intensify and knock it out again. Then the power would blink which would reset the box which took forever to reload. It was maddening, even moreso because we had a crowd over to watch it.

Really the only time we lose signal is any thunderstorm with lots of lightning. Heavy rain will interfere with it a bit, but not as bad as lightning.

I have an AM-21 Directv box that hooks up to my Genie that integrates OTA channels into my DVR and on screen guide. If I have a weather outage I can switch over to the OTA channel or switch over to Roku and use WatchESPN.

Somewhere around week three of NFL this year I missed almost all of the afternoon games. I was livid and I'm switching to cable just because of that one day. it rains too fricking much in Mobile to have Directv.

OTA>AM21>Genie(DVR)

When you look at the guide the OTA Channels are in the black box with the -1 after the channel and the channels in the blue box are satellite
channels.
