usually to a site called tradeexchange.com or something like that.

Anyone else experience this? I've dug around for malware/adware suggestions on how to kill this, but don't see anything concrete.

Search through your extensions and delete the adware, run malwarebytes, reboot into safe mode, run malwarebytes again

That's what's wierd - all of my extensions are things like adblock, ghostery, and the google docs ones. I don't have any others.

I wonder if one of the blockers is really a malware in sheeps clothing?

Have you run malwarebytes?

It might be a program that's opening a browser tab, bluestacks does this to me every hour or two.

Not weird. Extensions aren't the only way they get you. It is probably a program or combination of programs.

As stated, best first step is malwarebytes but I would start with running it in safe mode.

Then get hitman pro. It is only free for a trial basis, but it still runs after the trial and it will tell you if you have some garbage, It won't fix things after the trial but then you know to run Malewarebytes in safe mode again.. It runs every time you boot your computer.

Not sure what programs it would be though - it happens on both my ubuntu laptop and mac at work.

Gotta be something specific to chrome. I don't recall it happening in safari or ff, but I don't use those two that much.

Turns out it might not be chrome... could be the DNS provider my routers use.

Going to make some changes and see what happens.

I had this happen to me last month. I use OpenDNS, but somehow the settings on my router got changed. After changing them back my pop up problem went away.
