I am overseas and I need to get a VPN for Netflix and CFB.
A friend recommended Private Internet Access but I wanted to see what everyone here was using.

Private internet access is the correct answer.

I use Private Internet Access but it doesn't work sometimes. I think it's an issue with win 8.

Why should I stay away if it is based in the USA?

Want to be more specific there? PIA does not keep logs.

He's being a dummy PIA is the most recommended among those that know what they're talking about. It's the best, use it. Simple.

Yes. Any good VPN service will be, but it's only like $36/yr.

Numerous VPNs keep logs even if they purport otherwise. For example, Astrill professed that they didn't keep customer logs, yet ultimately it was proven that they were logging your account ID, the requested URL, and the time at which it was requested.
The US government ultimately has the authority over domestic VPNs, and they could force such companies to comply with requests for data or server access. These companies would undoubtedly comply in such a situation, unless you're under the delusion that they would take the hit on some jail time simply to protect you.

How does a VPN service know what URL your remote network is accessing?
Or do you mean proxy?
When I VPN to work, and go to a website, the VPN server is just sending encrypted data between my work network and my home PC. The VPN appliance doesn't capture data as it goes between the work PC and other internet sites.
Granted, we can track internet activity but it has nothing to do with VPN.

I don't really torrent much anymore, maybe for the occasional album or movie. I really want a VPN so that I can watch netflix and other streaming sites while overseas.
PIA it is. Thanks for the help guys
