I searched and there are a couple of 1-2 year-old threads discussing this topic, but wondered if anything had changed? We currently have a Roku 3 and a 3rd generation Apple TV that are both pretty sluggish. I'm looking for the device with the best performance, regardless of price. I'm a total free agent, not loyal to any brand or ecosystem. I just want to go fast like Ricky Bobby.

Also, we subscribe to Philo, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, but I don't think that's an issue with any of the streaming devices. Some people say Nvidia Shield, others say the Roku Express 4K. I figured I'd ask the tech gods of Tigerdroppings their opinions. Thanks in advance!

Easy answer, especially since price is not a factor.

I used to stream everything through my X-Box, but there is no DirecTV/ATT Stream app. Doesn't appear to be an issue for OP though.

I switched to Chromecast with Google TV earlier this year and I think it works pretty well.

I've either intentionally broken or accidentally lost 4 amazon fire remotes. Stay away from Amazon Fire TV or stick.

My wife needs to have Philo for her Hallmark channels. Well, she needs one of the live tv services for Hallmark channels, and Philo has all of them for only $20, so it's a keeper.

With chip shortages, and the supply issues going on worldwide, I'm sure Nvidia isn't coming out with a better Shield TV any time soon, eh?

I use shield tv pro also. Doubt anything comes close to the speed and features.

Pro is the box, tube is regular shield tv which is also very good. Think it has a bit less ram and slightly slower processor. I have both, they rock

I'm getting Roku express here shortly for my AMC plus membership so I'll say Roku.

If you ever want to mess with IPTV, stay away from Roku

I don’t think any of them that offer that are particularly good- mostly outdated TiVo and super cheap android boxes from questionable manufactures.

I would just add an HDHomeRun to the network. They have their own app, they can be integrated into Plex, Emby, and Channels.

Yes, it’s an added cost, but there’s no great one-box solution for that.

The Apple TV has made leaps and bounds from the third generation to now. If you do like their products, their more recent one is up to snuff. I have generally kept a roku device, an Amazon device, and Apple TV since each of them were launched. My cable provider switched to streaming only about a year ago, only Amazon and Apple got access to their app. The AppleTV interface beats the pants off Amazon.

There’s a lot cool about a Shield- can host a plex server, has direct attached storage (and more. But these, outside of interface preferences and available apps are probably the two biggest unique features of the device). I have a network share and DLNA server already, so these things are not horribly important to me.

Also the AI upscaling is very impressive and if you want to operate in the gray area to obtain your media then you need to go Android and the shield is the best there is for it as this is where the processor, ram and storage capabilities really start to separate it.

I turned it off. My LG OLED and Sony OLED are better at upscaling, but if you have a 1080p set, yes, it is very good.
