No.

It adds nothing. It isn't in any way shape or form more immersive.

Pure cosmetics. Money better spent elsewhere.

Also... Last time I bought Samsung seemed to be the brand to go with... Is that still the case today?

No clue. I haven't bought a TV in 5 years. My Samsung plasma is still going strong. It will be a sad day when it dies.

To expand on this, IMO the cosmetics are worse. They look like shite hanging on a wall.

When I was shopping TV's less than a year ago, all of my research indicated that they are not worth it. I believe they still come a premium, but for what benefit?

Curves are nice on a woman, not a tv.

I'd pay more to not have a curved tv

Dont buy a curve TV. It's a gimmick IMO and I don't like looking at them. Samsung makes great TV otherwise. The new KS8000 has a pretty good rebate right now. Not a fan of the connect box but other than that it's a nice looking TV.

I think they are made curved becUse it is easier for the oled panel. Curved actually gives you a worse picture with glare and worse off prime viewing angles. Panasonic has a flat 65" oled, but it is $$$. I'm waiting another year or two for the 65"+ flat oleds to come down some.

The only way a curved screen would be useful is if it was 300 ft diagonal. You would need a digital cinema projector for that.

Are 4K TV's worth it? Seems like when I last bought one 1080 was the newest thing, but back then cable companies weren't even broadcasting in 1080

They are not 100% a gimmick, but your seating arrangement has to be pretty precise to take advantage of it, which makes it not worth it.

the whole "is the curved TV a gimmick" thing doesn't make sense to me.

No, there is no objective advantage like image quality. But go sit in front of one and see if you enjoy it or not. I wouldn't pay notably more for one, but if they're roughly the same price as a competing TV and I liked it I might get one.

FWIW, I don't own one, I just think people look at curved TVs in a weird manner.

Are there any curved TVs that aren't OLED? I would certainly buy an OLED before I'd buy another LCD.

Don't buy a 4K TV though. 4K will made your HD cable/satellite feed look like standard def

A lot of the Samsungs, like almost every single one.

People call it a gimmick because it fits the definition exactly.

The marketing says a curved screen looks bigger because the edges are closer to you. The reality is the effect is so minimal (less than 1" perceived screen size) that the extra money you'd pay (unless you find a fire sale) would be much better spent on a larger TV.

The marketing says viewing angles are improved. The reality is that while the viewing angle on the far side of the screen is slightly improved, the viewing angle of the near side is much, much worse.

The marketing says reflections are reduced, but the reality is reflections are stretched and exaggerated.

The marketing says curved TVs are more "immersive", but the reality is that is highly subjective. So yeah, go watch one and see if you like it, and try not to be distracted by the fact that the picture must be distorted in some way due to the video being captured on camera "flat" and displayed curved.

The marketing says it's like a movie theater in your home, but the reality is what works on a 60 foot screen doesn't necessarily work on a 60 inch screen.
