Looking to purchase of these. I have been going back and forth on both of them. I have watched countless reviews and they all pretty much say the same thing, half like one the other half likes the other.

Who has either one and is it worth it?

I hear that a lot. Most say the Google Home once it catches up, will surpass the Echo. Think I am now leaning toward Google

Amazon was the first to market, but Google has way more data and has better R&D for future development. Plus Google has way more hardware partners so it will pair well with more devices going forward as well.

if you have a newer model android phone, you may be able to preview home on the phone itself with the latest update.

where is your music library? i'm not sure alexa hooks up to anything but amazon prime music so there's a decision point.

so far they're very similar to me but because my phone has to be on, i'm not giving 'home' a fair shake.

Just noticed Google does not have iheart. Not that big a deal though. One big advantage for Google of course is their built in search engine and it can carry on a conversation.

i have a google home but now your phones are basically a google home. i like having the stand alone speaker in the kitchen but its nice basically having a second google home in the bedroom.

This is wrong. Alexa definitely connects to Spotify.

They both connect to Spotify. But Google doesn't connect to Amazon and Amazon doesn't connect to Google. If you use either of those music services your decision is basically already made.

I'm not even sure what amazon can do now that Google can't. Outside of voice ordering from Amazon.com.

I have the Google Home, the improvements they've made over the past few months are promising for what they're going to continue to do. I use it most while I'm cooking to play music, set timers, check recipes, listen to the news, etc. It's replaced shitty background television since I've cut cable.

Keep in mind Google has a history of introducing products and not following through on them. Most of there stuff stays in beta forever and it is either abandoned or never updated.
Amazing is the leader in this segment and I don't see them giving that up. AWS is perhaps the major player in hosting and data storage for the world and Alexa leverages that platform.

Amazon is also pushing their Alexa into other products. For example, the new Ecobee4 has Alexa built into it. And I would expect this to happen with more products.

If they would introduce native integration between FireTV and the Echo, that'd be great.

Yeah that's the next step. Which is great. That's different than saying google is going to do away with google assistant/home.

Assistant is incorporated into some new TVs as well.

Not likely but it is more likely for them to decide to go a different direction with their home products and stop supporting their existing stuff. It has already happened and likely to happen again.

Just something to consider when selecting which ecosystem to buy into.

It's actually very unlikely to happen. They will no doubt evolve the product to where a stand alone speaker may one day be obsolete but just because they abandon things like google glass doesnt mean they're going to abandon personal assistants. That really doesnt even make sense. You might as well say they're going to ditch gmail.
