They will be made by HMD Global.
I am following them on Facebook for announcements since i also switched from Lumia recently. Hell, I was only on Windows due to Nokia in the first place.

About Nokia
Nokia used to be one of the world’s biggest mobile phone manufacturers but it fell behind with the advent of iPhone and Android smartphones. In 2014, Nokia’s Devices and Services division was sold to Microsoft. In 2016, Finnish company HMD Global bought a part of Microsoft’s feature phone business and has a licensing agreement that allows it to make smartphones under the Nokia brand.

Same
Unfortunately I have only ever had an iPhone so this will be my first time with an Android, it has me excited because I hear great things

It was a fairly easy transition for me even though there are some things I liked better on Windows.

Unfortunately it is my understanding that the current rebranding deal made between HMD and Nokia is only for China.
Nokia is purely collecting royalties for their name. Software and hardware completely done by HMD and they only had plans to sell in China

No, the first phone was for China only. A global release of other models is coming.

Since I actually work for Nokia (Networks). We are really big into our IP department and leasing IP for $$$. We have been scooping up wearable companies (2 in the last year). Not sure if Mr. Rajeev Suri is wanting to get completely back into the phone game, but the leasing to HMD I believe is a test bed to see how Nokia performs in the market. You best believe if it takes off we will contemplate really hard about making that jump again. I work in the Networks end (Radio) and considering we sell the physical layer of everything to all carriers im hoping this happens. For job security reasons obviously lol.

So basically it's not a Nokia phone, it's just a phone with Nokia's name on it?

HMD Global Oy, branded as simply HMD, stylized as hmd., is a Finnish mobile phone maker. The company develops and markets smartphones and feature phones under the "Nokia" brand, to which it has exclusive rights. It was formed in May 2016 by buying Microsoft Mobile's feature phone business and the rights to the brand until 2024 through a licensing agreement with Nokia. The sale was completed in December 2016.[2] For branding, it goes under the name of "Nokia Mobile".
HMD is made up of veteran Nokia staff[3] and is headed by CEO Arto Nummela, who previously spent 17 years at Nokia.
