Some things don't really need to upgrade.

They should have interviewed this guy.

The thing is, it's probably 100% safe from viruses as well.
I mean who would waste their time writing malware that targets AmigaOS?

ETA - Asgard beat me to it.

If that programmer ever becomes unreachable, no contractor will ever be able to make sense of it. They'll just gut it and replace. That makes me sad.

what I do not get is... They say "it will cost millions to change the computer"
Are they saying a system can't be ran on a modern Windows platform to emulate or replace what the Amiga is running?

[link=(www.amigaos.net)]30 euros[/link] will buy you the most recent AmigaOS. Yep. It's still sold.

Also, around 2-3 years ago, someone started selling Amiga-stamped either Wesena or Streacom itx cases. I forget whether it was commodore USA or not. But I do know that CommodoreUSA ceased to exist overnight after the owner died, sadly. They had begun selling the old Commodore 64-like cases for itx builds, and a few months later, the website was offline and gone.

Well, it probably isn't hooked up to the internet to start with.

They were the best home computers - certainly for the money - but just didn't have Apple's market savvy. The vacuum created by CBM's exit from the market allowed for PC clones to rush in as an alternative to Apple.

Good times, though. I had a C64 and an Amiga 500 - they were both working fine, well after obsolescence.

The most elegant multitasking OS ever. They were able to coax jaw dropping performance from 1980s silicon.

What could have been...

With the crowdfunding resources of today, CBM never falls. Had Google been around back then, that would have been the core of their OS, in all likelihood.

A sad day - the closing of the Amiga factory

It's not just the computers that need replacing, it's the entire HVAC control system for 19 schools.
quote:

the system runs on a radio frequency that sends a signal to school buildings, which reply within a matter of seconds with the status of each building. The only problem is that the computer operates on the same frequency as some of the walkie-talkies used by the maintenance department.

“Because they share the same frequency as our maintenance communications radios and operations maintenance radios — it depends on what we’re doing — yes, they do interfere,” Hopkins said.

If that happens, “we have to clear the radio and get everyone off of it for up to 15 minutes.”

The computers are the cheap part.
