He played well last night outside of the massive frick up in front of the goal and a few other moments. However, you're crazy if you think that's how he plays all the time. That was a 1 in every 10 game for him.
One game isn't going to change my general idea on him.

In how many of the other 10 games does he score a goal?
The frick up in front of goal looked bad and it was, but he just took too long and got surprised by the tackle. At least it wasn't a bad first touch like people love to criticize him for.

And his first touch is why he couldn't shoot. The ball never got out from under him.

Zardes definitely has value because of his athleticism, work rate, and versatility. I would just prefer if he didn't have the game in his hands on a breakaway

quote:Well, so far he's only scored against the Netherlands (friendly, #14), Cuba (#126), St. Vincent (#148), and Bolivia (friendly, #82). So, his average is 1.4 out of every 10 games.
In how many of the other 10 games does he score a goal?
Just for conversation sake, his assists have been against Panama (friendly, #56), Guatemala (#91), Haiti (#74), and Paraguay (#44).

He needs to be a sub, definitely needs to play. I just feel he brings more to the table when everyone else is tired and he is fresh off the bench.

For shite and giggles, how would your beautiful mind set up this case study?

He's not my favorite, I haven't been shy about it but I think this board goes way too crazy about certain players. He definitely has a role.

He's the American Welbeck!

That's what the rational posters OTB have been saying all along, correct?

He can be what Yedlin was for us in the World Cup.
A high-energy, high workrate guy that you bring in on the wings to run at tired legs for ~30 minutes. His lack of a sound first touch just doesn't make him a viable option in our XI.

Pretty much yeah. But there wasn't much rationality around before the tournament or after the Colombia game

Agreed. Thenry's post the other day comparing him to a less headache-inducing GAM hit the nail on the head, IMO.
ETA: There was also an Edson Buddle comp that was good.

I think he's a useful player... obviously, its arguable if he should be an automatic selection in the starting 11.. the options are kind of limited..
