I think our best bet is to bring in Castillo at LB.

this.

orozco and edgar have both been pretty horrible at times. Orozco could be fine, but castillo and johnson gives us our most athletic options. Castillo can be pretty tidy on the ball, too, and has the possibility of joining the attack. something orozco cant offer.

its pretty dismal, either way, and completely on klinsmann that better options havent been identified and vetted. and i think hes gonna play orozco at RB anyway.

So our main choices appear to be thus:
1. Johnson at RB, Castillo at LB
2. Orozco at RB
3. Cameron at RB, Birnbaum at CB

So I guess we have to pick our poison. I think Klinsmann goes for number 2, but I would probably prefer number 3. #1 is also intriguing to me, but I'm not sure that I trust Castillo.

All of this being said, the circumstances that the USMNT finds itself in is precisely why you bring Lichaj on this team.

This. This would solve all of the problems. It's a damn shame he can't get a serious look.

Yes, I am guessing that Klinsmann will go with Orozco.

Is it too late to call in Somefrick?

cwil reported in the match thread there are rumblings out of the U.S. camp that he might be called in before the next match.

Who? Lichaj? Thought rosters were sealed once tourney started. Or was that just for group stage? Sorry in advance...not a soccer expert.

Orozco in for Yedlin. Everything else the same.

I feel Ok with Orozco on the right as long as it's not Brazil.

3-5-2:
Guzan
Cameron-Brooks-Besler
Jones-Bradley
Bedoya-Nagbe-Fabs
Dempsey-Wood

Darlington playing central under Adi was key for Portland's MLS Cup run. He could do the same for the national team.

I remember when I thought Greg Garza was the next coming at fullback for us.
He still might be. He's just now getting healthy.

He never plays on the right for Monchengladbach, at least what I've seen.
He does occasionally. He started at RB twice this season and he occasionally moves to LB/RB late in games when a sub comes on to replace him at LW.

Texas singer, jackwoods was joking about a running soccer board meme about having a left back named "some frick." I alluded in the game day thread to him making a comeback with the national team with Yedlin being out next game. I think you're right that rosters are locked now.

Cameron to RB
Birnbaum and Brooks like in the friendly.

Cameron - Birnbaum - Brooks - Fabs
Jones - Bradley
Bedoya - Zardes
Wood - Dempsey

Dats a win

That is my preferred option as well. Or Besler-Brooks if they have any chemistry. Castillo is one of the worst players I have ever seen for the USMNT, going back to 1994. He does nothing well, and I am amazed that high level teams continue to give him a look.

He is probably 140 pounds or so and unbelievably weak on the ball.

I'd take Orozco at right back if it Klinsmann wants continuity with the center backs, although of course Lichaj as the back-up left back is BY FAR the best option.

I just think, as good as the CBs have been, Cameron at RB can provide as much going forward as Yedlin did while being more savvy about when to do it than Yedlin would have been.

I fully agree, as do most on the board (I think). If we had two Geoff Camerons, I would start one at RB and one at CB. However, I think the reason people are coming up with alternative line-ups is that they think Birnbaum or Besler will mess with the CB pairing's chemistry.

I can see either viewpoint and I think it's really a toss-up of a decision at this point. I would guess we start Orozco because that's what Klinsmann decided to do when he had 30 seconds to make a substitution decision last night. And his play was decent enough that he shouldn't really second guess it.

Jefferson Montero though. I will be surprised if he starts Orozco.

I would be less surprised to see Castillo at LB and Fabian at RB.
