If this dude can get above Onyewu, I'm fairly sure Crouchy would eat his nachos directly off the Gooch's dome

Gooch looked sharp yesterday.

He wasn't really tested. We dominated possession so much that he really wasn't asked to do anything.

I'd prefer Bocanegra and DeMerit in the middle. Let England play through Crouch, I'm fine with that. But Goodson is probably a better option than Gooch right now—he still looks limpish and unsure.

If Bocanegra and Demerit play in the center, who plays left back? Spector?

I think that an out of form Onyewu is still better than Goodsen.

Goodson played a solid match against the Czechs outside of the whiff that lead to the third goal. He also brings a large effective body to set pieces.

youre rt.. look what happened on their goal. Spector did good all the way up until he lost the ball and was out of position, but no one covered for him. With gooch in that wouldnt happen. He is also a vocal leader. I like torres cus he was actually supporting players and getting in on tackles. we need players like that or we will get dominated by england.

I just don't like Bocanegra outside, he's lost a step out there. It showed last summer and in some of the qualifications. I think he'd be fine inside, even against Crouchie. Boca would shove his nachos up his arse, so will DeMerit ;)0

'Dolo will be fine, what he lacks in pace he more than makes up for in his positioning sense, I like him in there.

I think people are making too big of a deal of Gooch against the Czech's. It isn't like he tried to jump and couldn't get up, he didn't even try to jump. He dealt fine with the first ball in that game that he needed to jump for. I think he just screwed up personally.

While I agree that Bocanegra has definitely lost a step, who is the better option at left back?

That's definitely a pretty weak position around the world, too.

It's crazy how many decent LB's France has. Abidal, Evra, Clichy, and even a guy like Jeremy Mathieu are/were decent, way better than the options most countries have.

I think we will struggle against England on the left because of the pace that Lennon and Walcott provide.

Demerit on the outside

Jay would get skinned by any winger if he is asked to play fullback. If Bocanegra plays fullback against England, he will drop back and not make many overlapping runs into the attacking third to prevent Walcott/Lennon breaking on the counter.

With who outside? Demerit's too slow, Spector maybe, but in that situation Bradley would play Bornsucko.

Which central defenders are the odd men out if Cherundolo plays RB and Spector is at RB? I guess DeMerit and Goodsen?

What we need is for Spector to play up to his ability.

I'd switch Clark for Edu or Torres, but pretty much. Test Buddle and Gomez paired with Jozy for a half at a time v the Aussies.

Torres starting against Slovenia and Algeria and as a second half sub against England if we can't retain possession.

I also would prefer Dempsey on the wings if we can get a pacy, competent forward partner with Jozy. In the second half, Dempsey can move forward and Holden can replace Buddle, Findley or Jozy.
