Why is Jurgen bullet proof?

I thought about bumping the "fireable offense" thread, but it went so far down the rabbit hole that it's better to not...

I would like to reiterate that Bob was fired for losing in the Gold Cup final, while Jurgen is out here losing in 3rd place matches and has already gotten a vote of confidence from Sunil on top of getting a contract extension through 2018 before we even took off for Brazil.

That shite makes absolutely no sense and it's quite embarrassing that we are perceivably putting Jurgy on a pedestal.

The funny thing is that Jurgen, from the start, has been all about "doing things like they're done in europe"... this shite wouldn't fly overseas.

It's because Klinsmann was a splash hire for Sunil. I believe he got 3 million a year while Bradley made less than 1 million.

I do wonder who the hell we were bidding against.

Which I really can't wrap my head around... Sure, he was the coach of Germany in 2006 and of course he was a damn good player for a long time, but he failed pretty hard at Bayern, it's not like he was some hot coaching commodity on the market when the hire happened.

You underestimate the appeal of the Botswana Special Olympics team.

He's Gulati's guy. He wooed him for a while so he's not going to give up on him until he's forced to. Everyone needs to let Sunil Gulati know this is unacceptable. I already have.

Even Toronto FC, who was almost as big of a dumpster fire as Chivas USA - wasn't interested in having him as a coach.

He's not, but in Bob's case we had Jurgy waiting in the wings, who had as good a resume as you could ask for and someone with a clear vision for moving the program forward. Who do we have waiting in the wings now? The fricking Sporting KC manager? No thanks.

The argument of "Well who are we gonna get instead" is weak. Always has been, always will be.

The question should never be who can we get that's "better" (b/c really people are just talking guys they've heard of, not best fit). The question should be is the current man the best fit for what he has to work with and is he doing a good job. He clearly isn't and to say otherwise is to be in denial.

Failing at Bayern?

someone with a clear vision

What's that "clear vision"? In what ways has the program moved forward on Jurgen?

Because he's European, and whole lot of soccer people in the US strive to be just like "Europe"

whatever the hell that means

We just beat the Dutch and the Germans on their home soil for the first time in history and now you want to fire our coach due to a poor showing in the semis and 3rd place game of the Gold Cup?

After we put 6 on the board against Cuba?

Our u-21s could put 6 past Cuba.

And we were shite all tournament, including the Cuba match. And friendlies mean nothing.

And I've wanted him sacked for well over a year.

I can't believe anyone uses this as support. Amazing. Jesus fricking Christ.

I didn't like the hire all that much in 2011, and I don't like it now. It will take a player mutiny for Klinsmann to leave at this point with how far Gulati is up his own arse.

Do you seriously value friendlies over FIFA/CONCACAF sanctioned events? If so, you are insane.

That's not quite true. The results are pretty meaningless, but we actually played well against some very solid competition. They may not have been full A sides playing their hardest, but we still stepped up to some very stiff competition.

That said, this Gold Cup showing was absolutely unacceptable. It showed zero tactical acuity. Our players were individually bad though. Some of that was on the ever-changing back four and other tactical flaws, but they still had a lot of bad touches, errant passes, and hopeless finishing. This was awful, but it's not doomsday for US soccer whether or not Jurgen is our coach going forward.

Correct. I misspoke. Friendlies could mean something if Jurgy used them to implement a style and settle on a squad. But he didn't do that, did he?

No, he didn't. It is a missed opportunity. What is the point of friendlies if you don't use them to find your core 11 and your best players, and their best positions?

It's pathetic that we can't impose our will on inferior opponents. Obviously teams like Germany, Italy, Holland, and Portugal aren't going to sit back, defend, and force us to take the game to them. They're going to impose their style and dictate the game. When we play the Haiti's, Panamas, Jamaicas we are the Germany, Italy, etc. opponent and we can't do shite. So exactly what progress have you achieved, Jurgy?
