I was able to go watch Brazil versus Netherlands in 1994, awesome time! However we have obviously come a long way with stadium expansions among the NFL and college football stadiums.

If/when the US is awarded the World Cup, what stadiums should we realistically expect would be used for opening-round and elimination games, including the final match?

Jerry World for sure.... Should we expect a high-capacity college football stadium to be used for a game over a smaller capacity NFL stadium?

I don't know if FIFA would allow the lack of room for the corners to be taken they had to put up with in the Gold Cup. That wall was right by the corner flag

That's the thing with football stadiums - have to have enough room to accommodate the larger soccer field plus the out of bounds area. Rose Bowl for sure would be used.

No, because FIFA requires each seat to be it's own individual seat with a chair back. You would have to replace the seats at almost every college stadium. They would just use mostly NFL stadiums again.

College stadiums wouldn't stand a chance regardless.

Since when? The Rose Bowl certainly doesn't meet that criteria.

He is right but this was not required in 94. All the stadiums in 2006, the ultra sections had seats installed.

That and in LA it would be in a brand new stadium anyway.

I went to that match, as well as three others at the Cotton Bowl.

They'll use Jerry World, now, but the Cotton Bowl despite the narrow seats, was amazing once the match started. It's old, which I like, dated, not enough bells and whistles for the youngsters, but DAMN did it have football atmosphere.

This time around? Without reading the Wiki article these would be my speculative choices
NY
Boston
Philly
D.C.
Chicago
Dallas/Houston
L.A.
Denver
Seattle
Santa Clara

Honorable mentions:
Miami
K.C.
Columbus
Indianapolis
Detroit

"In April 2009, the U.S. identified 70 stadiums in 50 communities as possible venues for the tournament, with 58 confirming their interest.[13] The list of stadia was trimmed two months later to 38 existing venues, one scheduled for completion in 2010, and one proposed venue.[11] On August 20, 2009 the list was further trimmed down to 32 stadiums in 27 cities.[14] On January 12, 2010 the USA Bid Committee narrowed the 27 cities down to 18 as the official host cities for the United States' Bid for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.[15]

Those 18 cities are: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, D.C. The 21 stadiums selected host NFL or NCAA American football games, with a capacity over 65,000 spectators. No soccer-specific stadium was selected, since none in the country has capacity for more than 30,000 spectators."

Then it would become only 12 host cities after that. 11 which I listed before are locks.

Things change, and so could this.
