why? its a better quality product that cost more to see

Now if we are talking about gymnastics then women get paid more with their endorsements than men

Because the clubs demand a significant cut if a player goes down in international game. There's that dynamic as well.

Let's also not forget that US Soccer helps subsidize the women's pro league.

Gotta ignore the trolls, man. Although the two sides aren't ever going to see eye-to-eye on this topic, that dude isn't even a part of "this board."

Ok but I would imagine in a WC year and immediately following a WC victory (the victory tour/Abby's farewell) those numbers are inflated

When they start playing the same sport, they'll get equal pay

while the men's clubs have to get paid if hurt on national team duty

womens soccer is so big that some of the biggest clubs in the world still don't have ladies teams.

He said, "Male athletes will always be paid more." Not male soccer players.

And it's the always part that stood out to me. The world changes pretty fast.

Serena Williams, who I'm not a fan of, is worth $140 million. Billie Jean King wasn't worth that.

1. One woman athlete is a very small sample size and most of her money is from endorsements.

2. If you honestly think a woman athlete will ever make more than Steph, Lebron, Messi, Ronaldo etc to all sports with male and female counterparts.....then you're out of you're mind.

3. The USWNT I think does deserve a raise, but to say they deserve equal pay with the men for what is widely known to be a less entertaining product against a less competitive field is a farce and a blind view on things.

FWIW, I'm not arguing for 'equal pay, no matter what.' The market should dictate those things.

But there are important conversations to have about how the market is tilted toward the men's game from the top. Revenue streams for the Women's World Cup aren't even itemized. Just lumped in with all other World Cups.

For every billion spent on the sport's development, $13 million is invested in the women's game.

So, I get it. I can't watch the WNBA. I do find soccer, tennis, and some other sports to be much more gender equitable, though, and the USWNT might have to piss some people off to try leveling the playing field some.

Proportional pay/investment would be a start. Not equal. Proportional.

Of course, we still have fricking mouth breathers making hilarious Alex Morgan porn jokes, so I'm not optimistic.

I can go with this. I don't think anyone could logically argue that there would be something wrong with the team members taking an equal percentage of their own generated revenue.

This is where comparing sports is a problem.

I think the gap between what men and women do on the soccer field is way smaller than what they do on the basketball court. Same for tennis, probably golf, most olympic sports, etc.

I mean, right now, I would guess Carli Lloyd or Alex Morgan could net more in endorsements than any US Soccer player. Who in the men's game is more marketable than her? Dempsey, maybe?

What a ridiculous comparison. You're making a comparison to an athlete whose prime was 40 years ago and talking about dollar values?

So much has changed that it's not even worth beginning to list how ridiculous your comparison is. Not to mention its total irrelevance. Even if Serena is worth $140 million, that's not even half of Roger Federer's net worth, so your comparison completely fails.

And what exactly does this have to do with anything? This suit has nothing to do with endorsement money.
You should have stuck with your original idea of not participating in this thread.

I'd agree with this.

However, I'm not talking about marketability. I'm talking base salary. They didn't file suit regarding dollars from endorsements. They want a higher salary for playing on the USWNT.

This isn't about who you are, or how marketable you are. It's about what is a fair amount of pay for the product you're supplying a consumer.

we just had this discussion a couple weeks ago after the idiot who runs the bnp paribas open said that stupidity

women's tennis is

women's soccer is

i tried to like women's soccer and i watch a lot of women's tennis (roommate always has the tennis channel on), too

She still isn't making as much as men, which is the point.
