What's the 5 year revenue average for both teams?

My earlier post

When you go back to FY12 it's obvious the men have brought in far more revenue.

By my tally, $97.2 million (men) to $69.7 million (women) since then.

But if you just look at FY16 and FY17 expected, it's $44 million women, $30 million men.

I liked that the article pointed out that some of the people complaining are part of the problem. Portland draws a good crowd for their women's games, around 10k to 15k I believe, but it's horrible in other cities. If people want women to make more money playing soccer start giving a shite outside of world cup years. I've been to 2 USWNT games. The first in Birmingham shortly after the World Cup. It was hot and played in a shitty stadium in a shitty part of town but they drew around 35k on a Sunday. I saw the She Believes touney played here in Nashville and only 25k showed up. That's pretty sad considering you saw 2 games for around the same price of the Birmingham game played in a nicer stadium and included 4 of the best teams in the world. Also, the weather was nicer and also played on a Sunday. I guess the difference being that the World Cup mania coming to an end.

The anger shouldn't all be toward US Soccer. I see no outrage at cooperate America not paying more to advertise during women's games or the networks for airing some of the games via stream. So no outrage at FIFA for awarding more money for the men as well? I'm sure the teams that didn't advance from the groups in the men's cup took home more money than the USWNT did for winning their cup. Also, the cost of going to a men's game is almost double of that of a women's game.

I'm all for them making more money, but saying it should be the same as the men is a little absurd.

Does anyone have financial figures going back to mens World Cup years?

The men brought in $27.7 million in their 2014 WC year
The women brought in $26.7 million in their 2015 WC year

The men's event expenses were $14.5 million in their 2014 WC year. Plus another $16 million in World Cup expenses. So around $30.5 million total expense.

The women's event expenses were $8.5 million in their 2015 WC year, plus another $5.4 million in WC expenses, so $13.9 total expense.

If that's right, the men lost around $3 million in their WC year, and the women made just under $13 million.

I'm not sure if that's 100 percent accurate because US Soccer divides its expenses in a less straightforward manner than they tally their revenues.

This doesn't include TV deal/sponsorship money, which is sold as a US Soccer package, gender not specified. The marketing dollars get murky with SUM's involvement.

Sounds like the women opted for security versus pay in the previous CBA's.

LINK

quote:

A USSF spokesman added that any revenue numbers from the players that showed otherwise were "inaccurate, misleading or both." The spokesman went on to add that the average attendance for U.S. men's national team games from 2011 to 2015 was 29,781, while games for the U.S. women's national team over the same period averaged 16,229 fans per game.

Sauer added that part of the pay disparity is due to the fact that back in 2005, the players' union opted for a pay structure that stressed guaranteed salary and benefits at the expense of a pay-to-play structure that would have increased payment for appearances in national team games. At the time, there was no existing women's league in the U.S. The CBA was then extended in 2013 through a memorandum of understanding, though its validity is currently being challenged by the players. "This is part of the current and preceding CBA that was negotiated by the players association and ratified by the players themselves," Sauer said.

Sauer went through a list of benefits women players get that are not available to the men, including severance, health benefits, vision insurance, dental insurance and pregnancy leave, which allows them to receive 50 percent of both their national team and NWSL salaries. If they are injured, they receive 100 percent of their guaranteed salary."When someone negotiates for guarantees of downside protection, almost necessarily, the opportunity for upside gets squeezed down a little bit," Sauer said.

As for TV ratings:

quote:

When asked if that almost two-to-one ratio was similar in terms of sponsorship and television revenues, Gulati said those deals are done collectively, and he thus declined to provide a percentage breakdown in terms of how much of the deal was tied to the women's national team and how much was tied to the men's. He said the television ratings for men's games were substantially higher than those of the women's games.

"An average rating [for a men's game], it's a multiple -- not 10 or 20 or 30 or 50 percent higher," Gulati said. "it's a multiple on the men's program right now."

Yeah, they bargained their current pay, so suing over it seems like a legal no-no, and more of a chip to use down the line when the current CBA expires this year.

The guy is just a sexist.

It's like I've said all along, the men's product is different from the women's. The pay isn't equal because the product isn't equal. Cherry picking 2015 revenue to try to make this argument should be obvious to anyone. The women's lawyer was on the radio this morning and sounded just as slimy and deceitful as you'd expect. Kept saying, they do the exact same thing the men do. That's just not true. Sorry women, and Stewie Griffin.

This statement pisses me off. "Major championships" is a relative term. Just because it's called the World Cup on the women's side doesn't mean it holds the same meaning as the men's.

I have two Canadian friends who had no idea they were even hosting the Women's World Cup last year.

But the kicker is those monies have nothing to do withUS Soccer, but FIFA. It is quite disingenuous for them to skew this data and use emotion instead of facts to drive a narrative of discrimination. People with reasoning can sift through this bullshite.

Why dont we just get rid of mens and womens sports segregation then? If we are going to pay women the same amount, and everything should be equal, then why have segregated leagues? I identify as a women, I should be able to play womens soccer.

NWSL doesn't exist witout USSF and MLS pumping it full of money.

Either the USWNT exist as it does with the NWSL .... or the NWSL cease to exist and the WNT can receive more.

Not just the US either, the Mexican and Canadian federations keep it afloat as well.
