In their combined caps this year, neither have gotten a start yet, but it's become quite clear how potent they are when on the field together these last two tune-up friendlies.

Now, as we head into the Copa, do we roll the dice and see how they fair in the starting XI and play 75-90 minutes or do we continue to use them as 2nd half subs and run at the opposing team's tired legs?

Nagbe took this game over today when he came in. Very impressive

What's been so cool about these last two friendlies is not only how good Nagbe and Pulisic have been individually, but also how well they've worked together.

They are more than deserving to start...you don't waste that talent for 15-20 mins of sub action. However, it's Jurgen. Therefore I predict that at least 2 of the 3 games in the pool play, 1 of them won't play.

Remember, we only have 3 subs

You mean we don't get 6?

I'm not sure Pulasic is ready to be a starter. He has looked good but he is still only 17. The tools are there but 1 mistake is a killer in these games. I'm not sure it is fair to him or the rest of the team to put that much pressure on him yet. Let him be a sub and get real minutes in a top flight league before he has that on his shoulders.

Nagbe should start but in the 4-3-3 doesn't he play the same role as Bradley? Jones has to be there to clean stuff up. Is he more valuable than Bedoya alongside those 2 in the middle?

Huh? he has been getting that with BVB.

Bradley is your 6, Jones your 8 and Nagbe is the 10

I'd imagine they'll both be potential subs, especially if we're needing a goal.

I really can't see any way that either would start against Colombia since they haven't even started the friendlies and that match is going to have a very different dynamic. You'd seemingly want the most experience you can get from every player defending their position.

I do agree with how good they've looked though and certainly think it gives the USA potential match changing moves off the bench, especially if needing a goal in the second half against Costa Rica or Paraguay.

I'm not sure 12 appearances and even fewer starts counts as getting a lot of minutes. Not when you are talking about some of the top national teams in the world he would be up against in this competition.

Where are you going to fit Dempsey?

He was first-choice by season's end. That has to count for something.

Not in the midfield... a place where he hasn't been since 2010.

That's kind of my point. You want a formation that looks like this :

Winger---------Dempsey----------Winger
-------------------Nagbe---------------------
---------------------Jones--------------------
----------------------Bradley-----------------
LB--------CB------------CB-------------RB

It doesn't work.

What the frick?

When did I ever say to stack three guys in the midfield? Have you not noticed the 4-3-3 we've been running lately?

He was on the team sheet, but sat on the bench at the end of the season because there were no more Europa or Cup games causing them to rest Reus or Mkhitaryan.

Still an important player for them, but I think having him as a bench player getting subbed on is a good role for him.

Nagbe should start. Pulisic should sub on in the 60th.

No, they don't play the same role.

I don't think Dempsey should play in the midfield for us, but that's where he's played all year for Seattle.

My thoughts too. But Pulisic should've started vs Bolivia to see how he fared over 60+ minutes.

I'm okay with bringing him along at a reasonable pace. No rush to start him. I do think he's a cut above the guys he'd be sitting behind, but theres such a different dynamic as a sub. I think it frees him up to come in and be a spark.

Nagbe should undoubtedly start. Preferably in the center of midfield as a 10, but he can play either wing too.

And I know the Zardes love lacks here, but his athleticism and work rate, as well as his runs, will keep him in the 11. His touch is come and go (mostly go), but he adds something no one else in the roster does as a threat on goal.

Ideally, this:

Gooz
Yedlin, Cameron, Brooks, Fabian
Jones, Bradley
Nagbe
Bedoya, Wood, Zardes

To be clear I don't think we will see this at all. I don't know if Dempsey is up to it anymore. I do think he will start though. Nagbe and Bedoya could interchange. Pulisic comes on for Zardes or Wood.

Basically I think the second half lineup from Bolivia will be our starters.

I also recognize I'm higher than most on Zardes. I watch a lot of MLS and his intelligence and movement has greatly improved while playing alongside Keane. If he can ever find a consistent first touch he can be very good for us. Big if, I realize. But he creates a lot of chances for himself with the quality of his runs.
