I'm actually surprised they don't ask for more...
They're asking for £40m allegedly....

We offered £30m

A base of like £25m with another 5 in add one or so is fair I think. But I have a bad a feeling we're gonna get raped again because we really want him.

And I haven't heard the stuff about him having a bad attitude but that's something that Klopp doesn't seem to really tolerate so I'm not sure about that.

Mane and Koeman have had some issues... I trust our guys will have vetted that properly if he comes in..

£40mm would be too much IMO.. £30mm seems about right, when you throw in all the factors playing into it...

He definitely give us a dimension we are sorely lacking, so I would be fine with him..

Mane to have medical Monday at Melwood. 30 million £. Deal could be done by Wednesday. Mane scored 11 times last year

The price is a little higher than I would have preferred, but not much more than I would have expected in the current transfer market, especially in England.

Word also that we're looking elsewhere at LB since Leicester's asking £10m for Chillwell. One of the names linked.....Ryan Bertrand. I would actually really like that signing, but damn can we just hire Southampton's scouts already???

With the business we've done already we've spent about £40m. No official outgoing yet to recoup some of that money. I think the big needs left are a LB, CM, and possibly a CB if we hear Sakho will be out for a while.

With outgoing transfers, it doesn't look like we'll be spending a ton of cash, maybe £40m or so if I had to guess. I know no European soccer puts a damper on things, but I really thought we'd be spending a lot more money and would see a lot more overhaul of the squad. Doesn't look that way right now listening to the rumors.

Well, we won't need the squad size since no Europe... But let's get a few key players (and get rid of a few), that can help us secure it for next season..

Mane's price tag is high (medical complete) But considering he's in the EPL, and the club didn't want to sell.. That's the going rate these days...

I am excited to see what he brings to our attack... However, I expect him to be a frustrating player at times, too..

I was litereally just thinking that he'll probably be similar to Sterling except only mess up easy chances occasionally rather than all the time.

I'd not high on the price, but obviously we see something in him. And he does have fight, and should get better service and more opportunities with us.

One of my concerns is that people as saying he got double digit league goals two years in a row as a wide player, which is false as he played striker a lot of the time too. But he does bring something we sorely lack and obviously is comfortable around goal.

I also don't think we need a squad overhaul. I expect better cohesion now that Klopp will have a full preseason to work with. A few little improvements in players or depth, and I think we fight for top 4. This squad was top 4 in the leage under Klopp until the last few weeks when Klopp played a clearly a second team while we had Europa. Several of our big competitors will be going through regime changes.

I lurk in this thread daily but don't post a whole lot. Y'all want one of the regular vets to start the 16/17 thread? I don't currently work cause of some health shite so if nobody cares about me starting it I can keep it updated regularly...was thinking about always having next opponent and the date in the thread title

I think the new thread waits until at least 7/1 and the window opens...or at least the first attempts by several teams last year were aborted as being "too early".

Hey buddy.

5 Deep and I had a text exchange about Mane just the other day. I dont hate the move, but do hate the 30 mill price tag. He is good, but Im kinda puzzled by the move. I trust in Klopp fully, but when we have Studge, Origi, Ings, Firmino, Cou, Milner, Lallana, then Markovich back, do they really need more help up front? I watched about 6 or 7 Southamptons matches last year, and Mane was really hit or miss. I actually played DFS soccer on yahoo with Mane more than a few times, and he was really hit or miss. The stats they track that are relevant to him are successful passes, crosses, fouls won, corners won, goals, assists, etc. and he had a ton of very low scoring matches, even playing the full 90+. Honestly, his best match was against Pool last season as a late game sub. Im curious how he will slot into the squad, and where Klopp plans to play him at. He has talent, but to me, the price tag is too steep to justify the move. I would rather load up on areas of need on the back end and in the middle. Overall, time will tell how good or bad the move is, but for now I am very puzzled. In Klopp We Trust. YNWA.

I kind of feel the same. I think this is kind of a question mark signing. He puts in good work as I remember, but he was inconsistent as far as overall production.

I still think we get a big name this window, just not sure who.

Also, I saw we agreed to ~2.5M for Canos, but worked in a buy-back clause.

I'm not sure why you would be puzzled about what he brings... Because it's something that none of our players currently have... And something we definitely needed.. His best match was the hat trick against city.. Though he loved scoring against us..

I mean the inconsistency, I get...

The price tag, in this day and age is par for the course...
