Best part was he knew what he wanted to do, and then did it

Moreno wet my shorts with that third. Sweet Jesus that was a gorgeous goal from start to finish.

Milan really want Suso (loan).. Not sure how that works when he's on the last year of his deal...

Stoke still want Assaidi, but he wants £50k/week...

We are looking at Valdes on a free, but would wait to assess his fitness in October.... He can sign outside the window since he's a free agent

Borini and Lucas are still in the window too

Looks to be a quiet today on the ins, may be busy on the outs

Suarez was at the training ground today saying goodbyes, and clearing out his stuff. There are a few photos of him with Stevie and friends, but I don't know how to post them from twitter.

Also, to really get your feels going this morning, Daniel Agger's letter to LFC and supporters:

quote:

"Liverpool has been such a big part of my life and my family’s lives for so long that leaving is extremely difficult.

"I’ll start by saying that Liverpool fans constantly keep surprising me. Since the news broke about the transfer, I have received so many positive messages and well-wishing for the future – not just from supporters in Liverpool but across the world.

"My family and I have always felt your backing, it is something unique to this football club, this city and our supporters – it’s been a privilege to have represented this club and I’m forever thankful for everything I have learnt during my time here.

"When I joined this great club, I came here as a 21 year old boy with a lot to learn. Liverpool has helped me grow up and shape me into the man I am today. I’m proud of who I’ve become and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my time at Liverpool.

"I’ve been honoured to live in this close knit city and my experiences as a Liverpudlian are unforgettable. I’d finally like to wish the club all the best for this season. I’ll be supporting you every step of the way, as will millions of others. You’ll Never Walk Alone."

Daniel Agger

That Moreno goal..will watch again and again. And loved that he went to the supporters and how excited he was. Hope its the beginning of a beautiful and long relationship!

My thoughts on Balos first start - extremely disappointed with how he finished - I counted four decent chances and he only put one on frame, and that one pretty much right at the keeper. All three others weren't really even close to frame. He has to do better than that. His hold up play and linking with others was better than I thought for a first game though. He also occupied guys on Sterlings goal.

I think being able to bring on Can when we have some leads will be a big help. Much better than Lucas (though I don't think he was really playing a second CDM with Gerrard like Lucas did week 1) even though we kinda of seemed to switch to a 4-2-3-1.

Not much on here about Sakho, but I've seen complaints elsewhere about him. I'm actually pretty happy with him. I think he's a bit goofy/uncordinated looking sometimes with his challenges, but I think he's probably our most positionally sound CB, plays a nice hard ball along the ground (so its easy to trap and move as opposed to a ball in the air) past pressing to the MF or even FWD, and is generally where you need him to be. I think a rotating 3some will do decent enough, assuming Lovren can play both sides well enough (and he was decent yesterday)

Lovren has been a bit more erratic than expected. Maybe he just needs some time to adjust?

Finally - after three weeks, its clear there was some tiers developing - I feel a lot better about our chances at top 4.

City/Chelsea
'Pool/Arsenal
5 or so teams (including Everton, Tottenham, etc.)
Most the rest of the league
Burnley

Looking at it - if Arsenal does not get more help at striker, you have to wonder if they'll struggle over the next few months and drop points (like yesterday) where they maybe shouldn't.

I thought ManU would take some time to grow into Van Gaal (like Rodgers first year where we struggled early but were the second highest point total from January to May), but I also thought they would pick up points due to their soft early schedule and by the time October or so rolled around, be high enough to compete for fourth. Does not appear that will happen and they are likely on a similar path to us two years ago. You have to think once they start playing City, Chelsea, us, etc. they won't be able to pick up points very easily. Long story short, our competition for fourth (Except Tottenham who we just beat) have dropped a lot of points early.

I really like Sakho, but yes he can look awkward... I would like to believe that yesterday is our future back line... Lovren mainly plays LCB, so it may take some time to for him to adjust to the RCB and probably explains him going for some of the same balls as Sakho.

But, with Agger, Ilori and Coates gone this season... That leaves us with just 4 senior CBs... That probably is hood enough to hold us until Jan, and reassess then...

I still don't understand how BR doesn't see the need for a quality DM... Stevie needs to rest and frick me if he gets hurt...

Given the Lucas rumors, I can only assume he thinks Can is able to do that job - maybe in conjunction (4-2-3-1) with Allen or even Hederson, etc.

There is no way someone was smart as Rodgers is can think that Gerrard will be able to play 50+ games this season.

That does concern me a bit with all the matches we have and our injury history at CB.

yeah, but I don't think any of those are really DMs... maybe Can can eventually fill that role.. Hell, Stevie isn't really a DM... thankfully, he has given up international football, so he will get some rest... Anyway, it is what it is, at least until January...

As for Balotelli, I though he did fine for being rusty/new... He'll get his match sharpness back soon and convert some of those chances... Was pleased to see him defending, a few times in our own penalty box... He loves those little back heels and hopefully Studge and Sterling will be on the scoring end of a few of those..

I think you're assessment in spot on... If we don't have too many injuries, I think we'll be in good shape for another 4th place finish... Though it will be tough, because I don't think there is much difference between 3-6 or 7...

I was surprised by Sakho's passing. He's usually a lot more crisp, albeit goofy looking, but he gave more away than usual with his passing.

I agree, I would've liked to have held on to Coates for an extra CB but I guess we can always bring in Lloyd Jones from the U-21's if we're desperate for cover, but I think Skrtel and Lovren l think have been pretty healthy in their career. Hopefully that'll hold us over til Ilori comes back and is ready for more first team action.

And I admit, I'll be a little worried about the midfield too if we get rid of Lucas, but Coutinuo and Lallana could potentially take up a deeper role, but I'm not sure if Rossiter's ready to be thrown into anything other than maybe an early cup match. Looks like we'll have a pretty good bit of money left from our transfer kitty even if we don't sell anyone else to put some of that towards January to get another good DM.

I think next season, Toure will leave and Ilori will be in the squad... Then, I really like our 2 deep. Lovren, Skrtel and Sakho will push each other to get better... hopefully..

If we stay with a diamond, I think you're right in that Lallana and Coutinho can play on the sides of the diamond... or even at the tip.. Raheem and Lazar can play at the tip too... If we go one striker, we can play a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.. Gonna be fun to see the tactics BR uses this season...

Unless I missed it (admittedly massively hung over when I made my first read through in the thread) has anyone really talked about Joe's performance? He spoke about needing to be more cynical this past week and he did just that. The grab and embellishment are exactly what this team needs from time to time to kill off games. Playing like a choir boy will get you 2-0 defeats to Chelsea like we had last season. They were incredibly cynical in that game and it worked. People may say that they'd rather us play with more class that that, and I understand that mentality, but at the end of the day I'd rather a somewhat dirty 3 points/draw than having to listen to songs about Gerrard falling on his arse.

We need more cynicism like Joe showed yesterday. I thought he was brilliant.

Looks like Assaidi to Stoke on another yr long loan... £1mm fee and they pay his wages... not too bad...

Hearing some rumblings we may go back in for Dele Alli (MK Dons)... very promising young MFer

Also, I really am going to miss this guy I'm actually kind of excited to see him finally play at Barcelona..

Joe was very good again. He's smart, quick, and he just understands the system. That and similar to Henderson, Manquillo, and Moreno, they may have some blunders, but at the very least, they are gonna run their arse off for 90 minutes. Can't be too disappointed with that

Oh and Agger and Suarez

Allen was solid and I have no problems in what he did... I'm sure I differ from some here, but there is a big difference with going down easy and diving... It was a foul that wouldn't have been called, if he didn't... Dier was stupid for doing that.. And I love how Joe didn't back down when Dier was trying to call him out..

In the end, those will go against us from time to time, as well... will just have to live with them..

I was hungover, too and had to watch the match again last night

#LFC have accepted QPR offer. Deal worth around £12million including add ons for Borini. Player granted permission to hold talks

So, with this Agger and the Assaidi and Coates loans, this puts us under £20mm net spend this summer...

Not bad considering most were speculating we'd spend about £60m plus sales. Will help with FFP, chip at our debt with Anfield renovations, and even go toward further improving quality at some positions
