Actually I'd be okay with that.

Look I've been hoping for a huge striker signing as much as anyone. But after watching the Dortmund match, I honestly think we have the potential to improve without Suarez (assuming the Coutinho and Sterling we've seen in preseason carry over to the season).

Even with Suarez and Sturridge crushing teams last season, there were huge points where they unbalanced us. Playing two strikers hurts us in numerous areas. It essentially takes a Coutinho, Sterling, Can or Henderson off the pitch. And I don't want that to happen.

That match against Dortmund yesterday was the most balanced we have been under Rodgers. Not only did we bang 4 home, but we got a clean sheet with two players in defense playing with this team for the first time.

Gerrard, Can, Henderson, Coutinho, Sterling, Sturridge is a really good front six. Add Lallana and Markovic in there and you've got the players to score 100 goals again while being balanced and more stable in defense.

I know what you're thinking. What happens when Sturridge gets injured, (which he will)? Having two veteran strikers behind him would be a nice replacement for a short stretch. If it was a season-ending injury, then yea, we'd be fricked.

Signing a Cavani or Falcao isn't going to happen. I don't see many other options.

I read that yesterday and I'm not totally against getting Eto'o. He's perfect in CL Finals so just make it there and let him work haha Only partially kidding. But while Eto'o is no longer the premiere guy he once was, I feel he could add a little something. And he probably wouldnt be terribly expensive considering he is a free agent with not a ton of interest. I wouldnt get into a pissing match with Spurs to sign him, but if he can be had for a low price I wouldnt mind it.

He scored 9 goals across all comps last year and had a salary of about 8 million euros. Unless that salary is cut in a third - no thanks. We need better production for that price

Not to mention he was a spurts producer last year and not capable of playing every match or close to it at a high level.

As for cavani - I've never rated him as highly as he seems to be. Couldn't carry Uruguay offense at all without Suarez. He's just missing something to be elite.

I think with the lack of interest Eto'o is drawing, he will either come to the realization he will have to take a lot less money or just hang them up. Its really his call. If BR could get him for 2 or 3 million euros it would not be a terrible deal. And I am with you on Cavani. He is good but not elite. I'm sure I'll get flack for it, but he just wasnt overly impressive to me, especially when it was he and Forlans (although past his prime) time to shine this past WC.

ETA: From what I read yesterday, the only other clubs really interested in Eto'o are LFC, Ajax, and Spurs. None of those would give Eto'o his top dollar old price. He will either come down and sign or call it a career, IMO.

I would think Lallana would play where Hendo was playing. LINK

100% agree

Coutinho and Sterling have a chance to make a big jump, and we look much more balanced with a true midfield, while still being able to press.

And I don't have a problem with Eto'o on a free. Stop gap til we can get Origi, and if we really need, we can always look for someone in January.

The more I think about it, if we can't get anyone better... I guess I don't have a problem with it, provided its a 1 yr deal. Although, if anything happened to Sturridge, I'd be concerned with relying on any of Eto'o/Lambert/Borini for any length of time...

I don't think the Cavani/Falcao type of strikers are realistic..

I definitely think this is Coutinho's year and Sterling will also get better and add more goals..

edit: I guess my main problem is I see Eto'o as a money hungry mercenary... I'm not naive enough to think many aren't, but at least they seem to do it in a more clandestine manner... with him, it just reaks of "PAY ME!"

IMO he's an elite striker, but a level below Suarez (to your point, he isn't really going to create something out of nothing)... Uruguay have the worst midfield in South America.. their MO is to sit deep and defend and counter, and Luis has usually relegated him to the wing...

At Napoli, with creative players by his side, he scored 33,33 & 38 in 3 seasons..

Anyway, it doesn't matter because he is prob out of our reach and I don't think we necessarily need him.

I really think Can and Hendo in a 4-3-3 midfield triangle, with Stevie at the base, would help us out the most defensively (hopefully Lovren too)... Those 2 as the runners/shuttlers in front of him... But that would leave Coutinho out or on a wing and I think he has to be in the midfield... a bit of a waste on the wing..

I'm hoping when Lallana is healthy, he is played on the wing and we keep Cou central... Markovic as an impact sub, or if he acclimates well, starting eventually on a wing.. maybe Can or Allen on for Cou, if we need to kill off a game..

The best part of reading your post is realizing just how many options and versatility we will have this year. When we need to give sterling a rest we will still have some dynamic guys in there.

Rodgers juggling of the squad will be very interesting to watch this year.

Oh yeah, its nice.. considering last year we basically had a static 11 and if we deviated slightly, all of us were pretty doom and gloom..

Also, I think thats important.. especially in a long season like this one.

I keep thinking back to Michael Owen and him saying he thinks one of the reasons his body didn't hold up on him later in his career, is because he never rested as a young player... despite what people think of him personally, there could be some validity there..

I'd be very happy with Mauro Icardi. Except of course for all the crap that comes with him. But then all our best recent strikers have had some "issues".

Thats still playing Can out of position when it comes down to it.

Yeah he seems much more suited to the diamond.
