People LOVE to diss English soccer, especially on this site, but you can't argue with results. Yeah Barca/Spain/etc.. are great but if you don't but the ball in the back of the net it doesn't matter. Too often people get too caught up in style.

Or you can have the best of both worlds? why settle.

Because it's usually not very entertaining (especially on the international level). Chelsea did a great job against Barca, but it was more Barca's profligacy in front of goal that swayed the tie than Chelsea's miserly defense. Barca had something like 10 goalmouth chances from 15 yards or less, and that's not including Sanchez's chance which hit the post in the first leg. Chelsea did an excellent job counter-attacking, as even Pep would admit that Barca is a terrible defensive team (without the ball), but they did about as well as anyone could with Barca's offense. Their key was to basically prevent Messi from cutting onto his left foot, which they did by packing the central area with three midfielders.

That said, the game itself was extremely entertaining, as it was the combination of the two styles that created the conflict.

Yeah, Manchester United are scintillating when Carrick and Scholes are in rhythm, passing sideways for 90 minutes

No doubt, while Chelsea did play negative football... 9 out of 10 games, Barca finishes those chances...

Nothing really english about chelsea's win in the CL.

Different country, where they speak funny, are a bit lazy, and considerably darker.

Because they play the least "English" football in the EPL.

Most of the big London teams are cosmopolitan, especially in the Premier League era. Arsenal, for better or worse, has probably been the least English big team for a while. But on the international level, England is terribly unattractive, except in spurts in qualifying. I'll admit that the English have been especially unlucky in international tournaments too, but they aren't a team I enjoy watching.

yeah that's why alot of fans don't like them. They have sooooo many foreign players.

agreed and yet I suffer.
fwiw, I found them more enjoyable this Euro than I have in awhile because they played such great defense and were so well organized in the back.
