I think Rodgers likes Skrtel too much. I don't doubt we'll bring in another CB for depth/competition especially with Toure and possibly Agger leaving, but I think Skrtel/Sakho will be our initial starting pair.

Either way, it's hard to say how much better we'll be defensively because we do sacrifice a lot with how much we push forward and with Gerrard as our DM. I think we can do better, but no matter who is on the backline, we'll give up opportunities due to our fullbacks, Henderson, and Gerrard being caught in bad positions and unable to break up play.

And I don't have any problem livening up the discussion. Anything to keep me from working

ame on Lallana... I guess the one good thing is that you can typically find better value in the back 4... the sale of Agger could also, probably, come close to funding a replacement...

I am under the assumption Agger is for sale... If not, I still think we need to bring in competition for Skrtel (Toure probably out)... and then that would be our 2 deep CBs...

If Agger goes, I think we need 2 CBs...

I am totally confident that Sakho can nail down the LCB position and with a year under his belt, be even better... but he would need a back up. Maybe Rojo?? He can play CB and LB, so that would be nice...

Skrtel, I think can be pushed for the top RCB spot and I'd like for us to shoot high enough on someone to usurp him... Skrtel could then be a back up for a year, before he's sold and Ilori is ready to come in and compete...

Anyway, just trying to drive some activity on this thread... Its been a slow offseason and will prob die during WC...

edit: Another good backup to Sakho at LCB would be Ashley Williams, if the rumors of him being available for £3mm are true (last year on contract). He could bring valuable leadership to the team and still has a few good years left. The question is would he be content as 2nd choice LCB??

We definitely need 4 CBs with all the games we have - and I would prefer another guy (Kelly?) that can cross-train there for depth.

I think Sakho and Skyrtel are definitely staying. I assume also that Toure is gone. I don't know about Agger - I'd love to keep him, but I'd also love to see another upgrade. I think we need at least one CB that is very athletic and can help keep counters at bay. With all that we throw into offense, we need someone who is quick and can defend in the space we leave behind.

That Palace comeback really showed me how easy it is to get off a shot at times against our CBs in space.

Williams would not be bad at all, especially at that price (and assuming we sell Agger) And I think if you tell him he'll be second choice, but even without injury to the starter ahead of him he can count on 15-20 or so games, he may come in. Especially if he could also fill in some at RB (not sure he can?).

38 PL Games
Guess at 3-8 Cup Games between the two (played 5 last year)
At least 6 CL games
Total thats likely at least 50 games - with the potential for more.

Last year we played just 43 and had a few occasions where we weren't sure who would play CB or at midfield due to injuries. And many of those CL and Cup games will require rest by some of our starters and studs.

Now we are being Linked to Rickie Lambert by Sky Sports (they have suspended betting)..

By my recollection, we have been linked to these SOTON players this off season:

Adam Lallana
Rickie Lambert
Jay Rodriguez
Luke Shaw
Nathaniel Clyne
Morgan Schneiderlin
Dejan Lovren

Why don't we just merge the clubs?????

TBH, I actually wouldn't mind any of those players on our squad... some to start and a couple as squad players

What a love story.

Ha! it was a partnership made in heaven for a couple of seasons...

While I was pissed at him at the time... He has a lot of valid points for leaving...

I just wonder what a Torres/Suarez partnership would have brought... Would he have been able to stay the same player he was before Chelsea or close to it...

That whole backbone of Reina, Carra, Hyppia, Xabi, Mascherano, Gerrard and Torres...

Not my favorite guy we've been linked to up top, but serviceable if need be to put the funds towards other positions. Between he and Borini, its decent coverage.

He's not a sexy player, but he is very productive...

I read if we sign him, we will have 3 out of the 4 players that had double digits in goals and assists this past season in EPL...

At a good price, too...

Productive - yes. But does he fit our system at all? I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't think we would bid on him if he didn't... I'm not sure if he can play out wide, but he isn't a AC type #9... nice skills and very good at free kicks and PKs (though he may not take them here)

I'm okay with it. He's definitely an upgrade over Aspas for 2015.

I think the BS of Bayern "re-tooling" their is just that. Maybe one or two leave, but a fire sale isn't happening.

Apparently, we have bid for Shaqiri and it isn't dependent on Lallana... I love this time of year!!

I read someone compare the Lambert signing to Bellers, both LFC supporters... not so much in style of play, but if he can bring the same experience, toughness and chip in with the same key goals and assists... it'll be great business at £4mm!

I'd rather Shaqiri, and I don't think I'm in the minority. That being said, I highly doubt Bayern let him go.

I can see it... they are stacked and if Shaqiri asks to leave, then it's not like Muller or Gotze asking to leave...

Whether its LFC or someone else, I would tend to believe he will not be at Bayern next year.
