yea i do like their style. luckily last time we played them their keeper got sent off, backup keeper was injured and their third choice was some teenager making his debut.

Arsenal in the next round of the FA cup...ugh.. hope Wengers usual disdain for getting any hardware shows up.
Course, we'll just be lucky if we can field 11 healthy guys by that point.
Will Skyrtel have to wear any protective head gear tomorrow? Or do they consider something like that minor enough to just go out with and hope you don't get head-butted again?

That fixture is right in the middle of a brutal stretch for the gunners, so maybe that will help...
Unsure on Skrtel..
So, we are being linked to two young DMs over the weekend, both somewhat underwhelming since we need players ready to step in and contribute immediately..
Andre Gomes is a young DM from Benfica who has had limited first team action, due to them having Garcia and Matic and that role recently... By all accounts, he is a big, strong, technical player... very good passer... Benfica do not want to lose him and have slapped a €15mm tag on him. Apparently, people in portugal think thats too low, see him is a future international for many years..
The other one is Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid on loan to Rayo Vallecano... he is another young DM, but can play CB. Knowing we are looking at him I watched the AM v RV match yesterday and he was playing at CB... He got booked and scored an own goal. A very unimpressive performance... I read up a little on him after and apparently he excelled in youth levels, but has stalled out... On loan for experience, some have said he is one of the worst players in all of La Liga this season ( Here is one of the write ups)... He MAY be one for the future but not what we need right now...
IMO, Gomes sounds the better prospect...
Now that Essien has moved to Milan, I hope the De Jong on loan rumors are true, would rather have him as a stop gap and then sort the issue out this summer...

While I'm not a huge De Jong fan (would not want to buy), he is sounding like the best option for this year, right now.
I don't know whether he would start over Lucas when Lucas is healthy (or if they would rotate some) - but at the very least, would give competition and be a good sub for some games we have leads in.
And btw, TFTC - thats some good homework - to watch that game to essentially see that there would be nothing worth getting excited about.

ha... I prob would have watched anyway.. Ive been watching a lot of La Liga and Serie A now that I have Bein Sport... I have missed it. Even the French league... I really enjoy watching, reading and learning futbol...
I think De Jong is an improvement over Lucas in general, but would be Ok just with a loan... he is 29. I know he has had some very bad tackles, but overall, he is a good DM (started on City's title winning side).

I see where we are being linked with Tom Ince again... Blackpool sacked his father and have told him he can leave, with his contract up this summer... possibly an alternative to Salah, should be cheap. I would be indifferent to the signing, but again, I dont think thats what we need at the moment and could probably find a better option in the summer... That said, he could be super cheap and turn out to be great signing... Swansea want him too

He was very on form the first time we were linked with him. Since then he's really fallen off, and I wouldn't be nearly as excited to get him anymore.

Doesn't the window close Friday? I know its soon. I'm astonished we haven't strengthened. It makes my blood boil thinking about the fact that this is finally our chance and the front office is twiddling with their dicks instead of putting pen to paper. Even more infuriating considering our absolutely depleted squad. I'd assume it has nothing to do with Brendan considering he said himself he was looking to sign a first team player who would have an immediate impact.
I just don't even know what to think. Its beyond belief.

It'll be interesting to hear what the management have to say if the back half of the season goes downhill
Posted on 1/27/14 at 7:53 pm to BleedPurpleGold
yeah, I am reserving judgement until the window shuts, but this just pisses me off to no end... worse than the summer of 2012 and that fiasco...
I dont get it... you can see BRs frustration at his PC today... There is absolutely no excuse unless we really don't have the money to sign anyone worth a shite... I think FSG are good owners and I understand we have to live within our means, but c'mon... they are signing sponsorship deals left and right, but we need a couple of players that can help us right away!

if we sign no one? IMO, Ian Ayre's role should be reduced to business matters only... Anything to do with football, specifically player involvement, should be off limits to him... complete tit when it comes to negotiating for players... this isnt a training kit deal, god dammit!

Yes, sorry, I was referring to if we don't sign anyone. I don't expect us to lash out Mata money, but I do expect to be strengthening.
Somethings got to be going on thats not clear to the fan's eye. Either they really don't value anyone to be worth buying or they have dropped the ball. I'm leaning towards them not valuing anyone. Either way it'll be quite an interesting finish.
We'll probably have to readdress this once the window's shut, however

You guys all nailed it. It's maddening to think that they can't see the importance of this window/season and how it can impact the future. We started off the season so well, and positioned ourselves to really make a legit run at 4th. We already knew that strengthening in this window was a must to finish the season strongly. Not to mention how ridiculously thin we are now.
I understand the not buying just to buy and worrying about overpaying mentality, but the fact still remains that we need some reinforcements to push for 4th in what appears to be a make or break year for the near future. Finish out of CL, lose Suarez, and then what? How do we rebound from that?
I can't help but feel that there is no sense of urgency at this point within the club. At least with the owners and Ayre. Certainly BR gets it just by watching him in his pressers. I'm just so confused by the whole situation and lack of any movement from the front office.

We can discuss the window after it closes in depth, but I'm excited for the match tomorrow
Could LSU have chosen a better day to close campus and cancel class??

Best performance Coutinho has put in in at least a month.
