Probably my favorite. A lot of tactical versatility.

That's pretty nasty. My only concern would be Sakho playing a central holding role. Is he good enough with the ball at his feet to effectivelydistribute everything he collects?

I like that.

If someone would have told me this club would be sitting at 9 points and no GA after three matches this season heading into the international break this summer I would have laughed openly.

Funny how things can change. I know its early but I was at a point where I accepted that we would not be looking at competing for a UCL spot this year. I am starting to cautiously believe that there is hope now.

This one intrigues me the most... with maybe Allen/Lucas being interchangeable...

Not a huge fan. Enrique has been good enough to keep his starting spot.

Just when you thought he was out...

He has played well. I thought he was going to pout and want away after the flare ups with BR last year but he seems to have embraced change and has been performing.

Damn, I didn't even realize Johnson was on left... yeah Enrique/Cissokho can fight for that spot.. but I agree Jose hasnt done anything to lose his job yet

Really enjoying watching Gerrard so far this season. He picks his spots for challenges and going forward well, while being instrumental in the possession and flow.

Anyone else think the reduced wear and tear on his legs from this role could lead him to hang around and a high level for the next 3 years? Anything more than that may be at a reduced capacity, I think.

I'm not certain how many of my body parts or organs I would be willing to part with to see that man win the league, but it would be a lot of them.

I would say at least another year. This is why it's so important to have a player like Henderson on the field who will do all of the dirty work in the midfield. Once you take him out in favor of a guy like Moses, you are left with two immobile midfielders (Lucas and Gerrard) paired with a purely offensive player (Coutinho).

Gerrard's tackle against Welbeck last weekend. One of the most magnificent ones I've ever seen.

..is exactly what prompted me to make my post

You're right about Henderson. I think it would work fine for a game or two here and there, but not on the long-haul. Maybe with a DM better than Lucas it would work. Or against an overmatched opponent (not too many of those in today's PL).

You really think only another year or so for Stevie G at his current level? The second half of last year was some of the best he's played in the last 3 years, so I'm hopeful of his being able to hold on for awhile longer at the reduced physical requirements of his role. Even at that, he's usually one of the top 3-4 guys on the field for us each game imo.
