BleedPurple thinks those clubs should be happy with finishing 7th or 8th at the very best and maybe winning the league cup if they're really lucky. Leave the big trophies to the big clubs who should be grandfathered into the top 4.

That's fair.

But, I don't think that it's that easy for any team that is in financial ruin.

That's a fair point. I don't really have a good parallel as a fan, but if the US could somehow pay its way to a World Cup, only to be relegated to a highlight of looking forward to playing competitive games against Suriname, I'd be okay.

Don't think I'd trade LSU winning a national championship my first year there plus losing on 1/9 for winning both and LSU playing in the FCS, though.

For most Roma fans in Rome it's better to just beat fricking Juve once than anything else. Foreign fans feel differently (mainly because it seems much worse to them to be in Serie B than it does for Romans).

You may trade winning a basketball championship at LSU for playing a few seasons in Div 2 if you're a basketball fan. . . . Football may not be the best example because LSU has a decent shot at the title almost every season without deals with the devil.

Again, you're thinking short term. English fans don't see it the same way. Yes of course they be overjoyed to get a sugar daddy sign on. But ask any of the number of clubs that have been relegated because of mismanagement if they wanted their club run that way and you'd have a unanimous opinion.

I'm not saying having a rich owner is bad. Having money to build a club up is the best way to establish parity. I just take issue with the way the money is spent because if its spent the wrong way it can cripple it.

Why do you have to constantly resort to trolling? I knew I should've kept my promise to myself of not responding to you anymore in these idiotic threads.

Even then though LSU, by virtue of the sheer size of the fanbase, would never fall too far. Take the SEC tv money away and it's still a much much much bigger program than anything in FCS.

Sure it might be a struggle when you came back up but the program wouldn't be destroyed. At worst it would be the Hallman era 2.0, and look how well we survived that.

It's the same thing with soccer.

what about chelsea?

how long does a team need success for it to count as "long term" to satisfy your notion of the fans?

I'm not trolling, that's really my perception of your position.

This thread reminds me of what I can't stand Americans who follow soccer in general. And coincidentally why I used to post on this board much more. You do well in a few world cups and all of a sudden the NFL experts become soccer experts because the way we do things in America is the only way to do things.

People think I'm crazy, but this is why I've always loved Ligue 1. There's always good parity. PSG is still behind several teams in terms of league titles.

Hell, Saint Etienne still has the most Ligue 1 titles in France, and they haven't won it all since the early 80s.

For real. Overall the way European soccer works is much better than American sports (see my thread on the MSB right now)

FFP angers me at least in part because it's taken the closest thing we had in sports to a pure free market and imposed American style artificial caps.

Have Chelsea been relegated now because of mismanagement?

Its not my notion. I don't have to justify this stance because I didn't create it. It's the way the English soccer mentality works. Its the way their sports culture is set up. Its why you have supporters groups protest their owners in successful clubs like Liverpool and United all the way down to Villa, QPR, Leeds, Portsmouth, and Rangers.

Again, at the 11th hour of administration I would've traded all the success under Gillette and Hicks just to be 17th that year and avoid relegation. There are bigger things than winning at all costs.

Avoiding relegation is, at some level, winning at all costs. Relatively speaking.
